As a member of the Baby Boomer generation, I do not think I would make a good modern Ukrainian freedom fighter like some of my peers. I can’t see myself hoisting a Ukrainian flag while I sit in an easy chair or post pictures of myself on Facebook basking in a foreign country, eating their food and using their plumbing. I am sure the Ukrainians are appreciative of the personal sacrifices these Great-Society, freedom-fighting Boomers make as they swallow exotic alcoholic concoctions in far off vacation locations and tell the locals how bad the current US president is.
Frankly, I struggle to understand the behavior of some of these Boomers. They went through the same schools and worked in the same world as I did, but for some reason they see the world very differently than I do. They make me uncomfortable because they appear to drool with propagandized hatred of the president I voted for. There seems to be a dangerous abandonment of common sense with these true believers, and it may be hopeless to reach them. I learned about this phenomenon way back during the Cold War and it is disconcerting that so many Boomers are poisoned this way.
It isn’t just a political, cultural, or philosophical disagreement with these people. These people actually hate a US president. The new, AI propaganda (Russian collusion et al.) has turned many citizens into rabid, salivating, wild savages who burn cities, rape history and work arduously to dismantle the infrastructure that supports our country. Some Boomers see this and instead of questioning it, they view it as necessary to get what they see as an AI generated monster out of the picture by any means necessary, up to and including assassination.
They adopt the Ukrainian cause and fail to understand that the conflict was cobbled together to install NATO into the midst of Russian territory. The whole conflict is a power play using endless war as a cash register for US politicians and the military industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about. If you like the prospect of World War Three, you love Ukraine. The only hope we have to save this country is to let the current president temper the conflict with some kind of negotiation to end the bloodshed that Europeans can never seem to avoid.
I don’t know what happened to these fellow Boomers and made them so weak-minded that they are easy marks for what is happening today. I do know that none I know have given up all their earthly wealth and gone to fight alongside Ukranians to put their money where their mouth is. That’s another aspect of history that is lost to us. A lot of people that start wars never fight in them.
