How were the allocated funds spent if they were diverted? Global warming? Healthcare? or some other, less significant government program that trumped technology advancement?

No. That is the entire point. There were never any funds in the first place. They were illusiory. They were just hoping for something to turn up.

So a Labour would have instead purchased the super computer before the building was built for it? Looks to me like the university is now going to be stuck with a purpose-built building they don't need because of Labour petulance in axing the computer that it was supposed to house.

It was a fake project that had no budget. Speak to Mr Sunak who lied about it all..
Shame for the UNi. But maybe they can get private funding. Tories have spent all our cash.

I would think if they were building a building, it wasn't fake.

Supercomputing will be critical to the UK economy going forward. Shame that particular item was cut to pay for boat people bennies.

The cash that was allocated has been handed over. How was the res going to be paid for ? They knew they were going to lose so they left it as a poison pill.
We havent seen this scale of dishonesty ever in my lifetime.

I agree that irs generally a good thing but I would rather give the Drs a pay rise and recruit a few more soldiers. Patch up a few tanks. And hire some police officers and teachers. Maybe move some classes out of portakabins and provide more prison spaces, Perhaps tale on some probation officers and hire mental health professionals.

Maybe if there hadnt been a massive unfunded tax givaway last november we could pay for all this. Its all about choices isnt it ?

The Bristish economy is not generating enough taxes to cover its existing commitments. It either has to raise taxes, which labour promised not to do, or borrow more money, which labour promised not to do.

Of course we don't tax to a balanced budget in the US because that debt is how we create the dollars that the world desires. People are a lot less worried about out debt exceeding GDP than they do England's because their economy is stagnant and ours is not.

As for people, try thinking about them as not sources of tax revenue, or even Labour, but the country as a whole. Last I saw, close to 70% of said nation were getting pretty pissed off about continuing to put out the welcoming mat and good towels for immigrants with your working, tax-paying little guys footing the bills in exchange for less and less and less.
