US-China trade deficit

China cheats

And the top 1% in America benefit from it

Trump knows this and wants to change it even though he is part of the top 1%

It's so funny that late last year, I didn't even know that China was that big of a problem. And if China is such a threat and Trump knew it, why did he buy his bibles from them last year?

Trump’s $60 Bibles are printed in China, the same country he’s accused of stealing American jobs

And the last 4 years we had basically zero unemployment. So honestly, illegals should not have been that big of an issue either. In the 2000's when jobs were scarce sure but not when we had zero unemployment and 10 million unfilled jobs.

But Republicans didn't have much to complain about since Biden was doing such a great job. All these could try to blame him for was

a. Illegals (can't believe people fell for it)
b. Inflation (started on Trump's watch. Not Biden's fault)

Does a trade deficit reflect a country spending more than it produces or saving less than it invests?

Donald Trump comes from a long line of rich white supremacists desperately trying to shift the blame to the victims of their centuries-long bigotry of racial exclusion and exploitation.

Can the World Unite Against U.S. Trade Weaponization? | Michael Hudson

"First, the notion that we have been victimized by foreigners.

"This is the largest nonsense I’ve heard in a long time.

"You know, it reminds me of the kind of conversation you get with a white supremacist who explains and whines that white people are at the wrong end of discrimination in this country.

"The attempt to snatch from the black and brown people who’ve actually suffered centuries of repression from white people, to try to erase all of that by telling some story that makes it all reversed."

Trade deficits are not good

They slowly but surely drain our nation’s wealth and leave us poorer

But I’m not an authority on economics and dont have the credentials to talk you doen out of your tree of indifferrnce

So I turn to the smartest investor I know of

Who, btw, happens to be a respected bleeding heart lib - Warren Buffett

He explains why trade deficits are bad and offers a plan for how to solve them

Which I’m confident you will not read

Seriously, this point has been made before. It was weak then and it's moot now.

THe issue is hte POLICY that creates a market that favors China for manufacturing. Trump and MAGA are changing that policy.

It's the perfect example. If we had a problem and he knew about it, why wasn't he buying American bibles? I'd say it's a great question to ask. You guys wanted Al Gore to stop flying in airplanes and sell 4 of his 5 homes well can't we expect Trump to be buying American?

Remember last year you guys said Democrats were trying to FORCE you to buy something you didn't want. EV's. You guys are such hypocrites. Look at you now. NOW we have to buy only from American companies, or pay a HUGE tax. Even if there is no American version of that products. Pathetic.

They were and still are with the $7,500 tax credit or banning internal combustion engines in california

The problem with Buffett’s article and that 20 years after it was written, the bad things he predicted didn’t happen.

....

It's been asked and answered for ten years. It's dumb to bring it up again.

Has it?

And I'm sorry but of course we have a trade deficit with China. We wanted their cheap shit and they wanted to sell us their cheap shit. If you don't want to buy their cheap shit, don't. But do a better job of weening us off China's cheap shit. Shelves are going to be empty the rest of the year. You voted for an idiot. You were duped. You'll see.

Or, you'll claim America is great again after he gives you a little win. Tiny win.

It is not about ME not wanting to buy their cheap shit.

That's not what this is about. YOu are playing DUMB, to avoid discussing this issue seriously.

Buffet has forgotten more about trading that I will ever know; however, he is a capitalist and subject to the same blind spots all those who value profit over everything else fall prey to.

Among those blind spots, Buffett may find it hard to accept how the US empire is declining while China is rising. Many of the criticisms the US hurls at China today were use by England to protest the rise of American economic hegemony.

His critique assumes trade should always be balanced and ignores how comparative advantage dictates countries should specialize in what they produce most efficiently.

Buffett's critics would likely point out how trade deficits are not inherently harmful since they reflect a strong US economy and that protectionist fears could lead to worse results than deficits?

Warren Buffett is an American first and a businessman second

High-sounding economic rules such as comparative advantage do not apply when one of the nations is practicing mercantilism

Buffett knows that no private businessman or entire industry can hope to defeat the combined efforts of an entire nation like china without protection from their own government

You just proved how stupid you are, China has been a problem for decades. Can you use the restroom yourself?

I just don't believe Trump. Not for a minute. I get it. In theory kicking illegals out and bringing jobs back home sounds like a good plan. But it's not going to result in MAGA. You are simply being played. And it's costing you. Tariffs cost you. Trump told you that this Xmas you will buy 2 dolls not 30 and those 2 dolls will cost more.

President Donald Trump attempted to split responsibility for the U.S. economy during an interview that aired Sunday, leading to mockery and criticism online.

In a sit-down with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” anchor Kristen Welker, Trump was asked about the current state of the U.S. economy following a contraction during his first 100 days back in office, which has also seen market turmoil thanks to his trade agenda and controversial tariffs.

“When does it become the Trump economy?” Welker asked Trump, who has repeatedly sought to blame his predecessor, now-former President Joe Biden, for any economic blips.

“It partially is right now,” Trump replied. “I think the good parts are the Trump economy, and the bad parts are the Biden economy.”

It would have been good to take on China. Why did he take on everyone else too at the same time? Seems like the same mistake Hitler made. Trying to take on too much too fast.

Did you hear about this?
Many Americans have not felt any major effects from Trump’s sweeping tariffs — until now.

That’s because a major shipping loophole expired at one minute past midnight on Friday. It allowed things under $800 to not be tariff'ed. That's ending.

You guys love to tell us to shut up and just wait. Give it 2 years you say. Well at least shut up for 2 months. Because things are about to get real ugly. Don't be bragging about a better than expected jobs report that's probably fake. Trump's self induced recession is coming. Haven't you heard? Hate to say it but I told you so.

You will be proven wrong. China cannot go without the billions they made selling us crap.
