Depends on what you mean by socialism. If you mean the socialism of Europe with its combination of capitalism and a robust welfare support system, Dems have always supported that, nothing new there. If you mean the socialism of China where the gov't actually owns factories, that socialism has little or no support among Dems, no change their either.

What is new is the recognition that our healthcare system is broken and the GOP will refuse to fix it on purely ideology. Obamacare was not a radical restructuring of the system but it has been disemboweled by the GOP. The Dem reaction is this Medicare-for-all, a much more radical approach.

The only thing that caused our health care system to be broken was extensive oppressive government regulation and that stupid program that Obama came up with (that he lied about) made it even worse just to get subsidies to the filthy welfare queens.

There never was any reason for the Democrat take-over....

The two biggest problems with Health Care in this Country are..

1) Cost-shifting. Our boy had to go to an E-Room not too awful long ago and, I'm telling you, it looked like a Cinco de Mayo party.

Nobody in the E-Room spoke English.

Know why? Because all the illegals have learned (through dimocrap scum) that E-Rooms MUST provide free Health Care no matter what. regardless of you ability to pay.

And guess what? They don't. They don't pay. Ever. Not a penny. Ever.

So how do Hospitals and Doctors collect the UNTOLD BILLIONS thos free-loaders owe them?

They don't.

So they cost-shift it onto those who CAN pay. You. Me.

IOW, if a Doctor's visit would normally cost $150 dollars, they bill the Insurance Company $250. That's to make up for the ones that don't pay.

2) Lawyers. Drug Companies spend more money on Defending Lawsuits than they do on R & D for new, life-saving drugs. Just a fact.

Doctors pay ASTRONOMICAL rates for Malpractice because they get the shit sued out of them every single day for things that aren't even their fault 95% of the time.

You can't turn on the TV or radio for 5 minutes without listening to Dewey Cheatum and Howe advertising for lawsuits.
