A vet can proudly proclaim his or her many years of service (active or reserve).

But there is no validity in claiming to have been in war merely because you were in uniform during wartime.

If Walz or Harris or their respective brain trusts had a room temperature IQ, or higher, they would have Walz fall in his sword and simply acknowledge that he wasn’t personally “in war.” Go ahead and brag about his service (which is fair enough). But be smart and admit that he wasn’t “in” war.

But what is the likelihood that Walz or Harris will do this?

It's pretty easy: Share your experiences in the military and don't embellish your credentials. I respect a 24-year veteran who was demoted to E-8 as much as a retired veteran with an E-9 status—without embellishments.
