In a blatant display of unconstitutional “equity” in action, Washington state is giving $120k forgivable loans to non-white homebuyers.

Gov. Bob Ferguson (D) signed into law earlier this week the Second Substitute House Bill 1696, expanding the Covenant Homeownership Program, which was launched in 2024.

“This is great,” an excited Gov. Ferguson said at a news conference, thanking state Rep. Jamila Taylor (D) for her “leadership” in getting the measure passed.

The Covenant Homeownership Program was originally introduced by Taylor and she let it be known that this was just the beginning.

“Expanding this program is a step toward closing the homeownership gap between Black and white households in our state,” Taylor said, according to the House Democrats’ webpage. “It’s not the only solution to the systemic inequities caused by centuries of discrimination, but it is meaningful progress.”

U.S. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) was quick to point out that this equity play was unconstitutional.

“The Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause prohibits this. It’s not even a close question. This is lawlessness,” the GOP senator posted on X.

Sounds anti-ethnic and illegal.

By definition this is a discriminatory housing policy against whites, so the law itself makes it inclusive by being exclusionary.

Some lawyer is going to have a field day with this one.

Surely a Obama or other leftist federal judge will issue an immediate injunction.......right?

Washington has a $6 billion shortfall, so they give out more money and then tax their hard working middle class. They have a gas tax that has passed the house and senate that would raise the gas tax, over 2 cents a gallon , then increase 2% a year after that, they are already fourth highest in the nation, they also passed a per mile tax of 2.4 cents that will increase yearly.

They are raising B&O taxes, FMLA taxes, added second tier excise taxes, and then give out more money for the social plans they still can’t afford.

I wonder what $120k buys you, property-wise, in Washington State?
I guess you can't put special conditions on a loan..like say, a VA loan...or a loan targeted at women owning homes?

Pretty sure it isn't 'against whites' as it's not taking anything away from white people--just adding an incentive targeting non-whites.

At least half. I worked for a doctor back in the late 70's who owned a boat, and we talked once about the moorage fees for a DUMP of a dock on the Duwamish River in Seattle. I was totally shocked!
