Virginia is catapulting itself into a costly energy crisis that will raise utility bills for residents; that the public shows no love for this industry; and that the benefits to be gained (mostly in the form of construction jobs) will continue only as long as new projects follow one another in perpetuity until the landscape is consumed by concrete and transmission wires.

Building enough infrastructure to provide electricity for even just half the data centers projected for development across the state will be difficult, requiring far more generating facilities than are under development today.

Well one thing about it, if they cover NOtVA with data centers there will be less room for transplant houses.

They are already talking about running 3X the NG pipelines that exist today to fire the powerplants they have not built yet.

What are they thinking? :dunno:

Sorry, I feel partially responsible for that. The NSA had to build one whole data center just to document all the icky things I've posted on USMB.

That's just the cover story ... they're documenting all the icky things you say on your telephone ... for future prosecution ... have you cleaned house lately, maybe keep an eye out for microphones ...

... and it's not the NSA ... No Such Agency exists ... the joke's on you ...

Seriously, consider the problem:
  1. The nation's thirst for data is spiraling upward. Each year we collect more and more kinds of data on more and more things.
  2. There is no green solution to providing the power to these centers. The most viable solution are nuclear plants which we refuse to build and take many years to get on line then there is the problem of reactor rod disposal (they last thousands of years and their best disposal really would be to bury on the Moon or hurl into the Sun!).
  3. This hits at the worst time as Biden also tries to go 100% EV on all forms of transportation.
  4. The real, best solution to the data current crunch is to cut the current by going full quantum computing; a quantum computer consumes a fraction of the current--- problem is that quantum computers are still under development and, brought to fruition, dramaticly increase the speed and capacity of computing allowing even MORE data collection, faster acquisition of data on you, plus fantastically smarter AI computers.

The solution is going full pitchforks and torches on these "data centers".

SHHHHHH ... dammit ... AI is standing right here listening ... with a smart meter between you and the electric grid ...

"The NSA doesn't exist ... we have nothing to worry about ... data center are there to cure cancer ... only an inhuman monster would threaten the cancer-curing-AI systems ... shame on you ..."

Vermont is being sued because the electrical infrastructure can't keep up with it's mandates
