Food bank calls for end to subsidised ‘fine dining at meal deal prices’ for MPs
Campaign aims to draw attention to millions spent on Commons catering despite millions using food banks
www.theguardian.com
t“pan-seared lemon sole with buttered English asparagus, watercress, white onion emulsions, poached mussels, oyster leaf, and caper burnt butter” for £10.10;
“warm apricot and thyme tart and creamy blue cheese wedge” for £3;
and “whipped black bomber cheese mousse, pine nut and pumpkin seed granola, sour grape gel and apple caviar” for £4.50.
At those prices it is evident where tew £7m subsidy is spent.. If they want to eat like kings they should pay for it. A market price.
In reality Starmer has several options. Charge a market rate. Withdraw the subsidy.. Large cooked lunches are not essential to public service and it would be hugely popular in the country. This is a hangover from victorian times and should be ended.
