Roman Empire

Still fascinates me

I also like reading about WW1 , crusades and Napoleon.

I always thought the 13th and 14th Century were great. Lots of interesting plagues and Mongol invasions going on. The 100 years war was great for guys looking for a career in the military.

1700s thru to present.
from the start of the universe to today.

The moment before I was born. I wonder what decisions I made to get to the egg first. Think about how long the odds were to be the fastest and all the randomness of the event itself that allowed us to even be in the race.

Only G-d could create these circumstances.

the 1940s and 50s are interesting
The 50s were interesting. Some say it was the second Golden Age.

The Golden Age was the 1870s to the 1890s. It must have been glorious with new inventions and the westward expansion. It was the rise of the titans of industry, the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers, Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, men who changed the world. It was the rise of Great Cities of America, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia. It was an exciting time for America.

I've always been a huge fan of the Middle Ages, what used to be termed the "Dark Ages".

There is a Prof at Purdue who has a Doctorate in Aurthorian literature but she covers extensively the entire era of the fall of Rome right up to the High Middle Ages -- circa 1700.

She has several courses on the website, "The Great Courses".

A pretty extensive course on the Plague too.

Dorsey Armstrong.

The Black Death is on sale for $35.00 right now. A good price.

History is both boring and useless. Its something to go through.

1870-1900 or so. As much as people complain about federalism, socialism, etc., they totally ignore the why did these things happen. The seeds were planted during that period to protect the country. The grange, the debs, exciting stuff was afoot

WWII
Late 60’s early 70’s - before PCs/iPhones, great music, Apollo 11, civil rights, great sports figures, NFL/AFL merger.

Looking back on the 1940s and back to the 1920s , I believe that our grand parents were way cooler than the present generation.
