What inferences can we make by looking at these two specimins?

Common to all existing life is blue-green algae ... they poisoned the environment and everything that wasn't blue-green algae died ... horribly, imagine your body slowly combusting with the air ... ouch ...

Pond scum ... still everyplace poisoning the environment ...

so now youre saying that blue green algae gave birth to what??

The nearest common ancestor likely looked very similar.

First is probably a herbivore. The second is obviously not.

Here's an interesting debate - two eminent biologists debating the idea of the "selfish gene", always refreshing to see controversy in science.



Note how Dawkins begins by saying that if he's wrong then he's been wrong for over fifty years and so have most people working in this area, this is (to me) a weak argument from authority fallacy, but I'll watch it all...

Why would the female of any animal bear young if she was selfish? ... except seahorses ... this is a point for boasting for the male, especially the older adults, you know, passed the ability if you get my drift ... evolution is driven by reproduction, any mutation that improves the individual's ability to reproduce spreads through the whole population after so many generations ... simple population dynamics ...

if theres a common ancestor that means sometime in the past one being gave birth to two different kinds of beings,,

That's not what textbooks say ... chemistry studies the changes these materials make ... from common ancestors ... a vessel of pure methane will be contaminated with ethane after so much time ... evolution ... DNA is a little more complicated but it not all that much ... the chemistry is the same ...
