GunnyL said:So, DF, is this your monthly comparison of Iraq to Vietnam? The question in your topic title implies such.
In Vietnam, we supported a despotic regime simply because they opposed Communist takeover and we were at the height of the Cold War. The government of South Vietnam was not supported by the people of Vietnam. The government of North Vietnam was only supported by the people of North Vietnam who were either ultra-Nationalists and believed Uncle Ho's horseshit, or at gunpoint. Whichever worked.
In Iraq, it is the despotic regime we have taken out, and have laid a groundwork for democracy. The religious fruitloops aren't interested because they prefer shoving their brand of religion down everyone's throats. As long as the government if Iraq is fundamentally a democratic government, and still desire out assistance, why should we leave?
To satisfy those of you who cost us one war and are working on another? We didn't lose in Vietnam. We lost the Vietnam War HERE at home by the same tactic being employed today -- a media hostile to the government's involvement in Iraq/friendly with the anti-government, lying liberals who would rather face National defeat than allow a Republican administration to do something good.
Let's call a spade a spade .... if we are successful in Iraq, EVERYTHING you libs have chanted for the past 3 years is discreditted and the current administration is right. It isn't about doing the right thing. It's about the political disaster that would befall the left should Bush's efforts be successful.
In other words, you lefties can't afford for us to win.
from one VN vet to another.... from this VN vet to Lt.Kerry et al... :finger:
