Is it something to do with the tariffs? Or something completely different? Whatever it is Greenland doesn't seem all that interested anyways.

Admins have been discussing buying Greenland since the 1860s.

Why is everyone making such a big deal about it being brought up again?

Much more important than people realize.
First of all, the temperature of global warming will rise in an accelerating fashion, so people will be moving north.
Second is that the icepack on Greenland is over a mile thick, of fresh water.
Clearly it could easily be shipped or piped to customers all over the world, who will be increasingly desperate for fresh water.
Third is that all of Europe will be forced to pay for Greenland fresh water collection so that lighter fresh water melt off does not instead force the Gulf Steam to sink and stop warming Europe.

866K square miles with a population of 56K?

It's a Big Place but my southwest Chicago suburban village has more than 56K people in it !!!

Mostly Eskimo -like folk.

Sheesh.

The Girl Scouts of Rhode Island could take the place.

Then again...

It doesn't belong to us, and it wouldn't be right to just walk-in and take-over...

Maybe "Don" Trump will make 'em an offer they can't refuse...''

Trump mentioned buying Greenland in his first term...but this time he seems much more serious about it...as if it's an urgent matter.

I'm thinking either Trump wants Greenland to ramp up it's defense...or he's concerned tht russia or china will use greenland as a staging point for an attack on us.

It could also be that china will soon cut off the rare earth elements they sell to us & Greenland has lots of them to mine.

Because when the icecaps eventually melt, the northern sea routes will be open all year and we need to protect them. Plus the natural resources on the island once the ice melts away.

Simple, Trump is exerting the USA's influence over countries in our hemispher.
yup, making a show out of pushing our allies for the entertainment of the Ugly American crowd.

Because it's a big chunk of land and Trump hates anything named "green." He'd probably rename it "UltraMagaLand and give it a new flag. I mean, look at Greenland's flag....it's fucking boring.

WTF kind of a flag is this? It doesn't even know if it's supposed to be red or white. And it doesn't have any stars on it.
