Indeed you could be correct, but like racist policies in certain states, we need a national declaration of what trans folk are, and what they are allowed to do in regards to women and children.

I'm fine with trans-identity in society if it's treated like smoking. You're an adult, you can do what you want, but it's a bad thing for young people to do and it leads to bad results in the future. That's not what is being taught or promoted in society though...

There is no such thing as a preferred name. That is ridiculous; your name is your name. I grew up knowing some people who had some real silly-ass names and none of them ever changed it. Further, your name is an identifier like your SS number--- once a person is 18 and responsible for themselves, if they really want to change their name, they can do so legally, by filing with the government.

If everybody just started picking or making up names on a whim, names would become meaningless. But in this case, this teacher was knowingly violating state policy in defiance of the law promoting a personal agenda. Besides, if I were a kid and really wanted a different name, the /first/ people I would go to about it would be my parents, not the last.

I can't imagine going to my school in the early 1970s and telling them I want the school to call me by a secret identity behind my parent's back. Had I done that, they would have sent me up somewhere to go see a shrink.

And that is where these people belong.

Using a “preferred name” is nothing new and hurts no one.
