For this thread we have to go back. On February 6 of 2021 FBI agents moved in to serve a search warrant on David Huber who was suspected of Child Pornography. At six in the morning David Huber apparently opened fire and killed two agents and wounded three others.

He barricaded himself in his apartment and later took his own life. He reportedly died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

At 9:30 in the morning USA Today put a news article online about the raid. This wasn’t unusual many news agencies were putting the story out about the same time.

Here it gets unusual. The FBI issued a Subpoena demanding the IP addresses of everyone who read the story from 8:03 PM to 8:38 PM. The Subpoena says this will provide information on an investigation.

Ok. What investigation? We know who killed the Agents. He’s dead. If he was dealing in Child Porn I could see a similar document to his Internet Provider for his web history. But a demand for all IP addresses who read the article during a thirty minute period fourteen hours after the event and some eleven hours after the story was posted seems. Odd.

Now. So far my narrative has been what is reported. What we know based upon the news stories. Now I am going to get into what I think/suspect with guesses instead of reports or facts. Prepare to flame me.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that the FBI monitored some communication where someone. Let’s call them X in classic mode, was referenced having just read the news. Perhaps it was a message board post for perverts where they said I just read where Dave likes your daughter was killed. Check it out on USA Today.

Since the FBI can’t subpoena internet records from a hell of a lot of places. They are casting the net over the one they can target.

Again. That is my guess. I could be very wrong about why they want the information. But we know they want the information. And we know that USA Today is fighting the Subpoena.

As for me, I am always suspicious of the FBI’s claims of Child Porn. Every time someone takes issue with their Civil Rights stomping actions the FBI screams Terrorists. And if that doesn’t do it they scream Child Porn!

Your guess is a logical guess based on assumptions that they play by the rules. My personal guess is they aren't playing by the rules. They already have the information they want without a subpoena and just want the paper trail now to hide their secret surveillance program as to create the illusion that they only obtained the information after the subpoena was answered and not before they even issued it.

If you believe nothing else about me. Believe this. I know that the FBI doesn’t play by the rules. Covered in the article that I linked to but not mentioned is the fact that the FBI is breaking DOJ protocol by issuing the subpoena.

But if the FBI already had the information I believe they would do what they usually do. Make an anonymous phone tip to another agency. Anything including staging auto accidents.

So I believe they do not have the information. Instead they went with the subpoena in violation of DOJ protocols.

In your Dave Likes Your Daughter scenario, they would be going after the telcom information, not the website information. They would want to know who the person under surveillance was talking to. The only other we are both sort of wrong scenario would be say someone hiding behind a VPN posted the link to the story on a dark website during that time frame along with some comment that raised eyebrows such that logically they cut the url and pasted it while visiting the site as opposed to at some other time and start from that list and winnow down the suspects (also through probably questionable mass surveillance means).
