Zimbabwe to scrap tariffs on US goods in goodwill gesture to Trump

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced he will suspend tariffs on goods imported from the US in an attempt to build a "positive relationship" with President Donald Trump's administration.

The move comes days after Trump imposed 18% tariffs on Zimbabwean exports to the US.

"This measure is intended to facilitate the expansion of American imports within the Zimbabwean market, while simultaneously promoting the growth of Zimbabwean exports destined for the United States," he said on X.

Trade between the two countries amounted to only $111.6 million in 2024, US government data shows.

The US exported goods worth $43.8m ( 34m) to Zimbabwe in 2024, up 10.6% from the previous year, while imports were down 41% to $67.8m.

More winning.....Many more countries will follow.

Sure, not much in the grand scheme of things but I've been told over and over the tariffs won't work, this must be misinformation.

Off to MS-NBC to find the real truth. ;)

Yeah, because we have such a huge trade deficit with them, lol.

So, in the grand scheme of things, jack shit.

Certainly worth the biggest two day crash of the stock market in history.

More than 50 countries have contacted White House to start trade talks, Trump adviser says.

More than 50 countries have reached out to the White House to begin trade negotiations, US National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said on ABC News on Sunday.

Hassett also denied that US President Donald Trump's tariffs were an indirect means to pressure the central bank to cut interest rates

Trump Haters : "Other countries don't care about Trump's tariffs because they don't pay the tariff, the US citizens will."

If that was completely true then why are these countries coming to table to talk to Trump about the tariffs?

Trump is using it as a negotiating tool and it is working. If Trump just nicely asked the other countries to give the US better trade terms they would just ignore us.

Trump threatens a 30-60% tariff and suddenly those countries are willing to talk and make concessions. To "negotiate from a position of strength" you first have to create that strong position. That is what the tariff threats are.

Who cares about trade with Zimbabwe?

What is Trump doing about tariffs on the McDonald Island Penguins?

Well, lookie there.

Drop the tariffs on us, we drop the tariffs on you.

So simple even a democrat can understand it.

Do you have any idea how petty you sound?
If that man handed you a million dollars, you would bitch about the denomination of the bills...:slap:

Is that your answer to the 160 million Americans invested in the stock market, retard? Why don't you go ahead and run with that message in the midterm elections. Aside from that comment showing all of us how financially illiterate and galactically stupid you are, that ought be a real winning message to the people.

At last, we’ll close that massive USA/Zimbabwe trade gap
Is India big enough for you to notice a 52% trade imbalance? Does closing that gap count?
Then add India to Zimbabwe, to Vietnam, Switzerland, and the 50 other nations calling the White House to say they will quit ripping us off, if we don't retaliate against them for ripping us off.

Only an idiot would hope that we fail.
