Technically they might suggest the West lost because Germany was in Western Europe. Russia and the West split Germany and particularly Berlin. They know, as well as any historian that the Russians were aligned with the U.S and UK. They know this obviously so I am not sure why they would even say "the West won/lost" he was aligned with the West.

Again, there were NO winners of WWII, just some who determined the outcome at the end while others were passively dictated too.
