That her not heeding the LEO’s commands and representing a threat to the officer causing him to open fire is like so many of the cases where an unarmed Black suspect did not heed the officer’s commands and shots were fired by the officer resulting in death and a riot in cities over the incident. What do you think I'm missing from the Babbit shooting?
When Bobbit was shot, protest-turned riot was already in progress but it was not over her getting shot. This brings up another point. Lt. Michael Byrd was in a position to defend the Capitol, its members, staff, himself and fellow officers. He opened fire because of a protestor with other protesters were not heeding commands and represented a threat. In doing so, did he set a precedent? Namely, next time protestors are jumping on police cars, pushing on police officers physically, or throwing projectiles at them, can police officers point to Byrd shooting Babbit as precedent and justification?
