WTF? Why?

Is this about controlling the media people consume?

I don't see what even tRump could justify this for.

I mean he babbled something about a "national security threat" and said the American movie industry is "dying a very fast death" but none of that makes any sense.

Are foreign made movies so important to the left? All Trump wants to do is even the freaking playing field when it comes to foreign trade. How bad can that be?

It's so expensive to make movies in Hollywood, many movies are being made overseas.

Trump is an ignoramus.

‘It wasn’t immediately clear how any such tariff on international productions could be implemented. It’s common for both large and smaller films to include production both in the U.S. and other countries. Big-budget movies like the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” for instance, are shot around the world.’

He's not "evening the playing field when it comes to foreign trade".

The UK has a trade deficit with the US, not the other way around. So what did he do? Put a 10% tariff on the UK.

That's "I'm trying to enrich myself and my friends as much as possible".

mission impossible is an American made movie ignoramus.....being shot around the world doesnt change that,,,

You are conflating movies with media? Media is almost always free. :cuckoo:

So many films will be unavailable in the US. Lord of the Rings. James Bond, Indiana Jones come to mind immediately.
Movies are one of Americas great successes, They dominate the svhedules of american owned streaming services like netflix, amazon and paramount.
If there are reciprocals on this nonsese it will kill the industry.

And will we see California double up as Africa again ? Or renaissance France ? Or India ?
This is his whackiest move yet. Worse than the Gulf of America.

Movie business is dying. Streaming is killing it. Tariffs will not stop it though.

Many of the streaming service movies are made abroad by foreign companies then sold to Netflix or whomever.

Granted, Hollywood is super expensive and the producers and writers have been stupid lately trying to cram a Socialist/Progressive message down consumer's throats.

Tarrifs won't stop it....
Not supposed to stop it.
But it will keep Bollywood (India) from importing movies cheaply.

Nobody (including our government) cares if scenes are shot abroad in places like New Zealand or France....but the main production needs to be done here in the USA.

There are millions of hours of labor that go into making a feature movie. Green screen time, editing, sound and etc. Those $$$ are lost overseas. Helps no one here.

Watching a feature film without a smart female heroine would be nice for a change.

Trump is gonna steal the Hollywood voter from the demafasict now! Brilliant!

But no seriously, who watched foreign films??

Ponder on this:

Hollywood receives significant federal grants for film production. For example, Disney Productions received more than $1.5 billion via film subsidies, Paramount Global got $1.6 billion in film tax credits, and Warner Bros. received $521 million via film credits1. These subsidies come at a cost to taxpayers, with Georgia, New York, and California losing millions of dollars annually due to their film incentives

Why should Hollywood get a nickel in federal grants?

It's not like they are making propaganda films for the War Department like in WW-2 or the Cold War.

Indeed, they are making propaganda films just for the leftists now.

I could understand it if they were making a war movie and needed the help of the Armed Forces like in The Final Countdown.

F-14s, F-6s, Corsairs, oh my!
