Nothing retarded about it if you believe in Capitalism. The supply of workers is very low and the demand is high thus salaries to attract the workers are high. There's no government sponsered aid that I know of it is just the Free Market. Many of the hurricane people do not have places to live or they are paying very high rates of rent.
