He came out immediately after the debate to exonerate the DOJ of any wrong doing. It was absolutely laughable in its hypocrisy.

But he's right. It's dangerous to criticize the DOJ (or any other aspect of government controlled by leftists). If you have any influence of any kind, it can get you put on a terrorist watch list, possibly even a no fly list, can get your phones tapped, false rumors told to your employer, neighbors, colleagues. Social media will be pressured to silence you by banning/restricting your account. If you are well enough known it can get you charged with some manufactured crime.
