Now, we should end affirmative action just like this article says we should.

what are you talking about? the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action have been WHITE women.


that is also a bit of a myth.

there are three types of affirmative action-
1. between equally qualified candidates
2. between minimally qualified candidates
3. racial (or gender) quota

most people have no problem with the 'minority' getting the job, etc if they are equally qualified. many people are OK with the minority getting the spot if they are reasonably qualified as long as the standard is kept high enough. most people are against strict racial or gender quotas.

why is this important in affirmative action hires? white women are much more likely to be qualified, or minimally qualified than blacks. if a company only needs to drop its hiring standard 0.1 standard deviations for a white woman but 1.0 standard deviations for a black applicant then they will go with the white woman. companies look for blacks to hire but there are not enough qualified black candidates to go around. the same holds true for university spots.

to recap- there are more white women with equal or near equal qualifications, there are much fewer blacks with equal or near equal qualifications. therefore it is much easier to find a white woman to accept out of the large pool than it is to find a black candidate out of a smaller pool.
