I currently have a fairly modern truck, but I was pretty much raised in older work trucks my whole life.

I had an older pickup growing up. Manual. Roll up windows and locks. No A/C. Worked on it. Eventually rebuilt it. Kept it 20 years. Eventually sold it for 4× what I paid for it.

I bought my modern truck about 5 years ago specially ordered in entry level trim (I actually do 'truck stuff'), but added some desired factory options (mostly engine/drivetrain). It works great, but I noticed right away the factory halogens left much to be desired.

So, I went to the dealership to see what my options are. Turns out, basically $5 grand. No thanks.

Then I went aftermarket LED light kit. Installed myself. Saved about half. Better product, better cut of the headlight beam, win-win so far.

Anyone else done an aftermarket fix to their ride over OEM with favorable results?

Just bought a new 2024, saved 20 grand over a 2025. Only thing I'm doing to it is all cosmetic. Damn thing has more bells and whistles on it, it'll take a year to get used to it.

$2500 bucks for headlights? What was wrong with the factory halogens if I may ask?

I found the headlight cut spotty and blotchy from headlight to headlight with OEM halogens. Especially living in a very rural area with a lot of dark. They had a yellow tint to them, which can be good, but I still found them a bit dim at times.

I was interested in replacing the existing light housings, which I did. Yes, they cost $2500. I had to basically take the whole front of my truck off to mount them, it was a success, and I think they look great. The dealership charges $5k to do basically the same thing. So far so good. 👍

My son owns a Dodge Ram that carries 5 people. He bought his new. Got a huge discount. Got rid of the factory white grill and installed the black grill on it. He knows all the details but it still is low milage and he has owned it for over 6 years now.

Very cool. I believe most people think RAMs are pretty cool trucks. I also think Chevy is rocking that same demographic as well. Ford, well they just plain suck.

I have a silverado. Only thing I have done to it is put steps on both sides. It does have roll up windows which makes it a unicorn but everything else is as you would expect. I do love that the tire warning light tells me exactly which tire is low and how much pressure it has in it.

As for the lights, have no issue with them though I seldom drive it at night. My only issue is that it really does suck up flex fuel and needs to be warmed up longer in winter before starting out when I use it, but at 60 cents less a gallon, I can't help but use it given the seemingly bottomless tank when you are standing at the pumps.

You paid 2500 dollars for a headlight upgrade?

5 years ago any modern truck I would think LED would be standard even in the lowest trim package. not upper end like mercedes which have LED that also self level and move when you drive but that's a whole different story

replacing halogen with LED requires a ballast and some good wire, LED don't get hot but the base which is the heatsink can get very hot.

read plenty of reviews of aftermarket on amazon and the results were not favorable, either due to not installing right or the brand itself was just cheap china junk........which it mostly all is

glad your results are better than your last setup, more light is always good unless the angle is off and you blind everybody, with trucks being high that can certainly be the case

are they DOT compliant?
