Having just turned 70, I remember picking fruit, digging ditches, doing janitorial work, mowing lawns, and working as a security guard back in the 60's and 70's. The younger generation today simply won't take these jobs, so older workers are stepping in to fill them. What's going to happen when the boomers are gone, and there are no immigrants to fill these positions?

I turned 70 six months ago and have been retired 8 years. Before my prior boss himself retired we would occasionally meet for lunch where he would complain about the new generation of workers. But for sure the Greatest Generation must have had a similar observation about us Boomers.

TGG though the Boomers were too rash and not appreciative enough of their forebearers.

The Boomers think the Zoomer are marshmallows with no spine.

I also just turned 70 and I remember my first job, after I outgrew babysitting, was doing laundry and housekeeping in a nursing home. What Mike Rowe would call a "dirty job", sorting through and laundering soiled linens and scrubbing toilets.

No one these days will do this kind of job, but think their way out is mom and dad and the government paying for their liberal arts degrees. Then they might graduate to waiting tables and flipping burgers.

I thank God I had to work some of those dirty jobs, because it prepared me for the fact that life gets ugly and temper tantrums won't change that, and choices have consequences.

I’m only 50 but I’ve noticed the younger generations not seeming to be interested in getting to understand the company, the business or the industry. They want to do their task then completely and totally disconnect the instant something is outside of their job parameter.

I work in the electric utility industry even though my background is in architecture and structural engineering. When I got hired 24 years ago I made it a point to get as much training and understanding of the company, the business and out industry as I could.

That knowledge and the relationships I built with others getting it now make me an extremely valuable employee and someone who is looked up to at work. I don’t see that in any of our younger, newer employees.

I dont think all young workers are bad. My granddaughter is 30 now. She and her husband have a large house, 2 newer vehicles, 5 golden retrievers, zero children, and travel for 5 weeks per year. I'd say there's really nothing missing and they're successful.

Everybody's rich and good looking online.

I think young workers are getting smarter. If employers want more from their employees then they need to up the pay. If pay is lower then expect lower effort. That's econ 101

And if people don't do what's in the job description, it's the boot out the door.

I agree. Boomers are almost gone as a power, and Millennials and Zoomers are, as correctly noted, spineless.

They will do as the little robots are told do.
The boomers have a chance to correct some of the craziness before they leave the stage. There are still too many from the late 1960'sthough wielding power. The first spoiled generation we are. And acting like children to the end.

You'll never get rich working for someone else ...
Although you can kill yourself a lot quicker working for yourself ...

But ... Find something you love to do ... And go for it.
Expect to fail ... Maybe more than once ... And keep at it until you get where you should be.

Fear and Complacency ... Are Dream Killers.

And if you think you know something ...
'Hang a shingle' and find out all the shit you didn't know ... :auiqs.jpg:
