Are younger workers spoiled?

I’m only 50 but I’ve noticed the younger generations not seeming to be interested in getting to understand the company, the business or the industry. They want to do their task then completely and totally disconnect the instant something is outside of their job parameter.

I work in the electric utility industry even though my background is in architecture and structural engineering. When I got hired 24 years ago I made it a point to get as much training and understanding of the company, the business and out industry as I could.

That knowledge and the relationships I built with others getting it now make me an extremely valuable employee and someone who is looked up to at work. I don’t see that in any of our younger, newer employees.
Not the Old American Way

This fits in with the fact that the rulers reward people who run away to college, and they promote them over people who learned the job on the job.

Honestly, I think having the CADD Degree was a big help when I walked in the door 24 years ago. It allowed me to learn the job rather than trying to learn the job and the software.

These young people today don’t care to learn about the industry at all. They want everything spoon fed to them without having to put in any effort at all. Nor do they have any communication skills. They want everything spoon fed. Every process written out in the finest detail.

Having just turned 70, I remember picking fruit, digging ditches, doing janitorial work, mowing lawns, and working as a security guard back in the 60's and 70's. The younger generation today simply won't take these jobs, so older workers are stepping in to fill them. What's going to happen when the boomers are gone, and there are no immigrants to fill these positions?

Well if those jobs didn’t pay shit wages….

Why do they need to learn about the industry? They're not there to grow the industry, just earn a paycheck.

In the industry I’m involved in… an electric utility company, misunderstanding the details of what you’re putting into our mapping systems can not only affect our reliability numbers, it can get people killed.

Looking at some of the younger people working in medical support is the same way.

Like Master, Like Slave

Same goes for their employers, those lazy parasites. Read Dilbert once in a while. It's been confirmed by everyone who is realistic about our decadent business culture.

The I in CIA Stands Only for Ego

That's what caused 9/11. Massive incompetence by our "intelligence" agencies. Smug know-it-all nincompoops. These Diploma Dumbos don't need a watchdog; they need a seeing-eye dog.
