No, it could’ve been resolved quite easily by having border patrol shoot the rancher on the spot when they saw what he had done, just like the rancher did to the immigrant. Then there would’ve been no need for a trial.

And he would be unlikely to ever do it again. I hope he’s facing financial ruin, at least.
