Taxing unrealised gains is one of the most stupidest things a government could do.Warning, before you vote, consider Kamala's policy plan to tax unrealized gains and what that means for you and your community and country (economics 101).
Let's use an example of a homeowner:
Supposed you bought your home for 80k 30 years ago, now it's worth 380k.
Kamalas proposal the first year it's implimented will tax you on 300k you didn't pocket in your acct but have "unrealized gains on". Out of that 300k you would be taxed about 100k (more if it temporarily puts you in a higher bracket that Kamala wants to gouge with 45% taxes) which you'd have deplete all your retirement savings to pay off, if you even have that.
If not you'll take out new debt even if your home finally is debt free, you now are forced back into putting your house up for collateral on the new loan.
Some people will lose their home, some tenants will be gouged by landlords passing the expense, some businesses needing money for their sudden tax will lay off or close and people will lose jobs which meansxmore people will lose their homes including landlords with non payingvor existing tenants. More tents in your city, stock markets affected by silly proposal will crash causing more lost wealth and this will spiral and collapse our system (like the Bank failures during the Lehman era), which is why you should consider the mental fortitude and gumption of who is making these proposed policies andxwhat is their agenda to tear down our economy like that? There is nothing new under the sun taxing unrealized gains has been tried before thes attempts to tax unrealized capital gains in countries like Sweden and Germany serve as cautionary tales. The unintended consequences of such policies can be severe. The liquidity issues, administrative burdens, and economic distortions that arise from taxing unrealized gains have repeatedly proven to outweigh the potential benefits that is why these countries abandoned doing it . I liken it to how you can see what is going on economically in the blue states compared to the red states ..
