Biden’s Blunder, the Taliban, and U.S. Weapons: Trump Wants Them Back

13 May 2025 ~~ By Antonio Graceffo

In what may be one of the most devastating foreign policy failures in modern U.S. history, President Joe Biden’s reckless 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan did not simply leave a power vacuum, it handed America’s enemies one of the largest unauthorized arms transfers in history.
Today, billions of dollars in U.S. weapons and equipment are in the hands of terrorists, black market arms dealers, and hostile regimes.
According to the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), the Taliban earned over $3.4 billion in revenue last year, partly by selling seized U.S. weapons to global terror networks. Groups such as al-Qaeda affiliates, ISIS-K, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and others are actively using these weapons for attacks and training.
A recent BBC investigation revealed that half a million weapons captured by the Taliban are now unaccounted for—either lost, sold, or smuggled out.
The Taliban originally seized around one million items of U.S.-funded military hardware, including M4 and M16 rifles, Humvees, MRAPs, and even Black Hawk helicopters.
While much of the high-end equipment remains non-operational due to lack of training and maintenance capacity, thousands of vehicles and small arms have been deployed in combat or sold to the highest bidder.
The BBC confirmed that the Taliban admitted these weapons were missing during a closed-door UN meeting in Doha.
Despite Pentagon assurances that most equipment was disabled, the Taliban continues to flaunt U.S. hardware in military parades, most notably in August 2024, when they celebrated three years in power by showcasing captured gear at Bagram Airfield, once the main hub of U.S. and NATO operations.
~Snip~
Since resuming office, Trump has vowed to reclaim the gear, stating: “If we need to pay them, that’s fine—but we want our military equipment back.”
Yet the Taliban has refused, insisting the arms belong to the state. Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid declared, “We seized these weapons from the previous administration and will use them to defend the country.”
Meanwhile, China and Russia have cautiously moved to expand their presence in Afghanistan, seeking to exploit the vacuum left by the U.S. withdrawal. Both countries have reopened embassies in Kabul and hosted Taliban delegations.

This is not just a policy failure. It is a long-term national security liability, one that continues to arm terrorists, embolden authoritarian states, and erode American influence across one of the world’s most volatile regions.

Commentary:
Biden the worst. incompetent fraudulently elected president in U.S. history deserves having his entire 4 years, scrubbed from the History books along with all Executive Orders or Law that he ever signed and should be tossed into the trash can.
The shear incompetence of the Biden administration lies in the fact that they gave the Taliban massive amounts of weaponry and lists of the Afghanistan's that help the U.S. forces.
If it had been anyone else rather than a Democrat president, it would have been considered treason.
You have to question whether Biden and his crony henchmen got paid kickbacks in exchange for these weapons. That's what needs to be investigated and prosecuted.
The Afghanistan debacle was just one of many things Biden should have been removed from office over. His long list of crimes and his screw-ups are many.

You left out that the withdrawal time line was made by the Orange Cheeto and Biden was meeting that withdrawal day. The Orange Cheeto did nothing to wind things down knowing full well that he could transfer the blame to Biden.

In order to prevent those weapons from being seized by the Taliban, they should have been taken care of months earlier. It didn't happen.

Nobody should care. the equipment is either compromised, outdated or simply non-functional anymore.

Biden took office in January 2021, the withdrawal took place in August of that year.

how many months did Biden need?

yeah except that Trump was a part of the plan for withdrawal

The Trump administration in February 2020 negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government, freed 5,000 imprisoned Taliban soldiers and set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal.

Republicans eager to blame Biden but have nothing to say about Trump involvement and his agreement.

He was involved in the agreement and supported it.

is that in response to my post?

"set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal."

January to May--4 months

"the United States Armed Forces completed their withdrawal from Afghanistan on 30 August 2021,"

an additional 3 months,

Biden had 7 months to remove arms and personnel.

First of all:

you-went-gateway-pundit-never-go-gateway-pundit.webp

Second, you must remember that tRump negotiated the deal with the taliban, not Joe Biden.

and you only want to blame trump, who had been out of office for 7 months.

sorry, bud, Biden was in charge.

Yet Trump made the deal in his last year in office.

Why not leave it to the next guy?
if things go well he gets the credit.
if things go south then the new guy gets the blame

McMaster, who was Trump's top national security adviser from February 2017 to April 2018, told CNN's Anderson Cooper during an interview on Monday night that his former boss was partly responsible for the debacle because he had decided to negotiate with the Taliban on terms of a withdrawal.

Trumps National Security Adviser

The Trump deal if it went good then he would take the credit. If it went bad then he would blame the next guy.

We can play the blame game all day long.

This was Trumps deal. If it works he would take credit.

Once the deal was made early in the year is the best time to start removing equipment instead of waiting towards the end.

Troops are at its lowest level and locals are stealing whatever they can get a hold onto.

Too bad Biden was in charge for the 7months leading up to the evacuation.

Trump made the deal in the previous year and could have done a better job instead of hoping that he would win re-election or just leave it to the next guy

Of course Trump was running for office the following year and probably was not in a hurry for the withdrawal because he was taking the credit

Trump added that he "planned to withdraw on May 1st, and we should keep as close to that schedule as possible."

"Trump has continued to take the lead in peace talks as he signed a historic peace agreement with the Taliban in Afghanistan, which would end America's longest war."

Trump was already to take complete credit if things had gone well.

" I did that"

but in reality he could not get it done quickly. and lost the election. Then blame the new guy if it went south.
