Canada Retaliates

This is going to be an extremely interesting next couple of days... Trump seems intent on fighting on multiple fronts.

The last guy that tried that on any sort of continental scale blew his brains out in an underground concrete box.

Try one-at-a-time if you're gonna try this kind of $hit... Think before you Act...

Last time, Trump started 7 tariff wars at the same time. Most of them were unresolved when Biden took office. But your trade deficit, which was $835 billion and falling under Obama, has risen like a rocket since Trump took office in 2017, and there's been no recovery there.

Biden did a lot to build up US manufacturing, but your trade deficit hasn't really come down since Trump was elected the first time. Obama had 8 years to restore your economy, and his policies had time to take effect.

Biden had 4, and Trump has come in with a wrecking ball once again, before you've had a chance to recover.

Oh yeah...mexico will crumble when we deny them fritos.

What would the frito bandito do with the rest of his life?
What would you do if you had half a brain?

Yes. Agreed. But the "wrecking ball" is so frigging huge this time and moving so fast that it might accidentally benefit the US.

I've got grave doubts on that score but there is that distinct possibility. In any event we'll know soon enough, won't we?

Fair trade agreements.

Trump doesn't want "fair" anything. He wants agreements that screw over your trading partners, because he's not winning unless he buries everyone else.
It needs to be better. You are getting into the childish. "Mommy why is the sky blue?"

Then that's TRUMP'S fault. He doesn't get to tear up the deal just because he's changed his mind, or he made a bad deal. This is why Trump's businesses all fail and lose money. Decent people won't do business with someone who just tears up his deals.

Trump's word and even his signature, has no meaning at all.

Panama got it line

Mexico got it line

Canada got in line -

Greatest negotiator in the history of History.

List of products from the United States subject to 25 per cent tariffs effective February 4, 2025

There is going to be a second, broader round of retaliatory tariffs three weeks from now.

You will be paying more for tobacco, produce, household appliances, firearms, military gear, passenger vehicles, trucks, beverages, cosmetics, paper products, steel and aluminum products, certain fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, dairy products and more.

Stock market futures have been taking a steep dive ahead of tomorrow's market opening.

And Trump backed down today when Canada didn't roll like members of his own party do.

Provinces respond to Trump tariffs by pulling U.S. liquor from shelves

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has ordered the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) to strip its shelves of American products in response to the U.S. imposing 25 per cent tariffs on most Canadian imports starting Tuesday.

"Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore," Ford said in a statement Sunday morning.

Government-run liquor stores in B.C. have begun pulling "red-state" U.S.-made alcohol brands from store shelves as part of the province's initial response to new American tariffs on Canadian goods.

By Sunday afternoon, shelves carrying whisky brands like Jack Daniel's were left empty with signs reading "Buy Canadian Instead" at the B.C. Liquor Stores' Cambie location in Vancouver.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said on Saturday that his government would direct the Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. to remove all U.S. alcohol from store shelves effective Tuesday. That totals more than 400 products, including beer, wine, spirits and coolers.

Business deals with the U.S. will also be curtailed.

On Sunday, Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey said in a statement that U.S. products will be pulled from liquor stores across the province by Tuesday.

Gee whiz. All the Canadian stuff I buy on a daily basis. (Not)

The dollar is soaring. Yeah, FX went down a tad. Big deal.
/---/ "Canadian beer?"
It's good for rinsing out my sweat socks and jock strap.

Rupert Murdoch owns the Wall Street Journal. It is an arm of the right wing media empire which includes the New York Post and Fox News.

Here is what they make of Trump's trade war hoax:

Trump Blinks on North American Tariffs

Fox News' Laura Ingraham: “I’m not too impressed with the Canadian response, frankly. A ‘fentanyl czar’? I don’t know what that’s gonna do. I guess they’ll have a few helicopters flying at the border. It’s not nothing, but … I think President Trump saw a huge negative reaction … Do you think he reacted to that?”

Canadian media has also enjoyed a good laugh at Trump's expense.

Canada takes a stand; and Donald Trump blinks

How This Hour has 22 Minutes tapped Canadian fury in viral trade-war sketch[/url[

The country’s satirical show “22 Minutes” has a Trump look-alike declaring, “I did the impossible. I made peace with Canada!” He then signs an executive order — “The I Did Not Lose But I Totally Won The Trade War Order.”

Even the right wing media is catching on to Trump's tired, dog-eared hoax playbook.

And once again, he is the laughingstock of the entire planet.

I LOL'ed when I ready that. :auiqs.jpg:
I'm sure it was a good hyena laugh.

Now read post 136.

Trump's playbook:

  1. Trump declares some emergency.
  2. Trump proposes a dangerous “solution” to said emergency.
  3. Everyone freaks out.
  4. At the last minute Trump announces that his powerful negotiating skills have solved the emergency and won a great victory for America without needing to impose the dangerous solution.
  5. The status quo remains stable.
  6. Repeat.
