Cash for Clunkers: An exercise in futility

Oh and:

Dow Jones Industrial Average:

9505

That's up 2200 points since Inauguration Day.

As any economist can tell you, unemployment is the last figure to go up after a recession, but those numbers have even started to improve slightly.

So then Bush did something right ... economic effects take a while to show up.

So then Bush did something right ... economic effects take a while to show up.

So any positive things that happen are due to Bush, and any negative things are Obama's fault?

Is that how it works?

You fail at English to. No, anything of the previous administration (no matter who it is) effects the next one ... oh wait ... now I'm repeating what Obama said. Silly me, he can't be right about something ... unless it's only bad news.

When was Cash for Clunkers billed as a "Help the Poor" project?

It was designed to:

1. Spur production to help with the recession

and

2. Help get rid of greenhouse gases

It was successful with both. And the whole "they would have bought them anyway" idea is a crock. You have no clue if they would have bought new cars.

Seriously, the rationalizations you people use to try to make your political opponents look bad are as pitiful as they are transparent.

Help the poor? Who said anything about help the poor?

Bottom line...those that were going to buy last quarter 2009 bought in August......I mean....what fool would say...My car is 5 years old....but I want to wait until it is 5 years and 3 months before I trade it is...so I guess I will miss the 4500 discount?

Those that would have bought from July to December.....bought now.

Or, those who would not have bought at all, due to the expense, bought now because they could afford it.

Again, you have nothing to back up your claim, at all. Unless you have some numbers about how many cars were sold... 6 months from now?

We shall see. You are lucky enough to allow yourself to apply hope and optimism...... and I dont blame you.

As a business owner and one that needs to put emotion aside when making decisions, I see it differently.

If you are a business owner, I commend you for putting your business thinking aside.

By the way...we are in a recession. Unemployment is off the charts. If one could not afford a car unless there is a discount of 4500, then perhaps now is not the time to buy that car. Now, this person is either 20,000+ cash poorer...or 20,000+ more in debt. Either way, for one that is "lured to buy" the second most expensive item in his portfolio by a 20% dioscount is one that should not be buying.

See you in January when the last quarter numbers come out.

It was designed as a spur to production. It succeeded in doing that.

The money was used for it's intended purpose, and it was so popular that they DECIDED to add more. Not because they owed more, but because they decided to add more because it was successful.

You're the one who's spinning here.
Your grasp of economics is terribly tenuous, at best, isn't it??

I imagine that it's escaped your grasp that the money spent on cars doesn't materialize out of thin air (well, in this case it kinda does) and isn't spent in other areas of the economy, like housing, food, clothing or other goods. Of course, when the subsidy dries up, so will the "boom" in sales and production....In fact, it may well crater a bit.

So much for that "success".

But now I imagine you'll say that Ben Bernanke is some sort of "partisan hack" who's "in the tank for Obama", right?

So what???

The National Weather Service told me it was going to rain all day today and the sun is shining.

Which reminds me...I have a motorcycle to go ride and fish to catch........

So, to recap:

The clunker program (an apropos description if there ever was one) burns through the $1 billion that was supposed to take it to November, is now being scrapped two months short and $2 billion over projected costs.

And this is supposed to be evidence of success??

And these incompetent nincompoops now want to now execute a fascistic takeover of more than 15% of the entire American economy??

Yeah...

Except the fact that all that money was spent means that the program was MORE successful than expected, and the money was given out faster than expected.

Not that it is "being scrapped two months short".

That's like saying winning a war two months earlier than expected is "scrapping the war two months short".

And the $2 Billion dollars was additional funds added to the project because of it's popularity.

Of course, you know all this, you're just spinning away, as usual.

All the money is spent? NO not even close. They dont even have a clue themselves, but because all the dealers are backing out because they are not getting paid (with all the spent money) its better to end it with an excuse and try to save face.
It is and was another failed shit stain attempt the man doesnt have the experience plain and simple.

Man, you people really can't be positive about anything, can you?

Sheesh.

Not when you are wasting my money!

Hey man, I live in New York.

Last time I looked, large population states like mine have been paying the lion's share of the taxes, PER CAPITA, and the lion's share of the federal funding, PER CAPITA, has been going to the small population, mostly Republican, states.

I've been getting ripped off for decades, and I don't see anyone from red states rushing up to pay me back. If representatives of the blue states want to finally spend a bit of money to benefit some their constituency for a change, well then that's just too bad for you. Think of it as "payback".

Republicans have been cutting taxes and deficit spending for 30 years now, and then they complain whenever Democrats are in charge, calling them "Tax and Spend".

LOL, can you say "hypocrisy"?

Yet another unsupported piece of BS from another spinner.

Perhaps you have some data to show that a large percentage of dealers are "backing out of the program"?

Because I'll tell ya, that's news to me.

Actually my grasp of economics is quite good, thanks.

Only a Kool-Aid mainlining left-wing moonbat considers stiffing its customers as "success".

Yep,You would think that a few of these Socialist maggots would atleast pay attention to what's going on? This program is a failure just like all Socialist thought up programs are. It should really be called Cash for dipshits. ~BH

This is what I responded to:

They dont even have a clue themselves, but because all the dealers are backing out because they are not getting paid

The poster stated that "all the dealers" were backing out. From the news I've seen, there were a few hundred dealers backing out, because so many cars were sold that they didn't have enough capital on hand to "wait to be re-imbersed".

That seems like a wildly popular, and successful program to me.

Which is why I asked the poster to provide some hard data on how many dealers had in fact "backed out" of the program. Which he failed to provide.

In addition, the poster implied that this meant the program had failed, mainly because he, like so many other right-wingers, would claim Obama failed if he increased the GDP by 10,000 percent, and found lucrative new markets for everything.

They'd say something like: "Well, now we're too rich! Damn Obama!"

Fair enough, Ok then apologies for being so harsh on yuh. I thought that you were saying that this has not been reported. Atleast you're admitting that they are not paying up, and that is a big problem with this program. ~BH

Yes, federal red tape is a bitch.

Which admittedly is an issue with government programs in general, and is about the only problem I have with public option healthcare, in which case I believe the pros far outweigh the cons. But that's just IMO, and another subject.
