Rangel, one of the longest-serving members of Congress, died on Memorial Day at age 94, according to a statement from the City College of New York, where he served after leaving politics. CCNY didn’t state a cause of death.

Known for his genial manner, the gravelly voiced lawmaker was an unmistakable presence on Capitol Hill when he served as Upper Manhattan’s Democratic representative from 1971 to 2017, and he was part of a powerful political circle of Black leaders in New York.

In the 2000s, Rangel became an outspoken critic of President George W. Bush and the Iraq war. He became the first Black chairman of the influential House Ways and Means Committee, which presides over taxes and many social and health programs.

Ethics problems pushed him out in 2018. He'd served forever.

I didn't like him, but I respect anyone who shows up.

R.I.P.

Didn't care for him either, but RIP. He was, like most black congressmen regardless of competence, kept being re-elected.

He is the bastard who tried to reinstitute slavery back in 2013.

He's was nothing but a scumbag.

Good riddance. I'm going to personally shit on his grave.
Spoken Like a True Racist.
Well Done.

Like with most politicians there are things I liked and things I didn't .He was a regular on the Sunday news shows. That is one thing I liked about him not afraid to face it. His war record in Korea is a profile in courage.
Like all of us he will be judged justly by God an History. R.I.P.

Wouldn't leave and wouldn't govern. The poster child for the current do-nothings in Congress.

RIP, Mr. Rangel

No one? Not one? He was a big Tax Cheat as far back as I can remember. 08’ when Congress allowed the housing meltdown (they engineered it, actually) as I watched my 401K and house value Plummet. Rangel was taking bribes and not declaring income. The puple-lipps wouldn’t touch him, and he was “busy” setting up his own trillion dollars theft.
****

Rangel, who not only didn't report all his taxable income, but also used his privileged position to ignore NY's bizarre rent stabilization laws and accepted "an interest free mortgage" (read "bribe"). But oh no, none of this is his fault he confidently stated because Rangel,

under fire for possibly unethical and criminal actions, said yesterday that what he regrets is baiting news reporters, who he says are responsible for his woes.
Rangel said he broke his own rule, "don't take on the press," at a press conference five months ago.

"I said, 'Hey, I'm 77, and what the hell can you do,' and I took them on. I made a big mistake," Rangel said, gaveling to a close the first meeting of the year for the Ways and Means Committee.

Even though he was a Democrat, I liked the guy. He talked like Frankie Five Angels in Godfather II.

Didn't know about his war record. Thanks

Rangle belongs to the Democratic party of slavery, dumbass.

In 2013 he introduced a bill he called "Universal National Service Act" that would have reinstituted slavery.
Are you confusing 'slavery' with 'service' because you consider service a form of slavery?
