We should have brought back important manufacturing. Manufacturing jobs are the most valuable jobs. Not just because they pay well. Manufacturing jobs create other jobs. Tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers of that manufacturer. Restaurants. Dry cleaners. Taking clients to sporting events.

1 good paying manufacturing job is worth a lot more than 5 service jobs. 5 service jobs, none pay enough to raise a family.

Actually, my parents really made out when my mom went back to work. She landed a job as the night front desk person at a hospital and over the years became a medical biller. She ended up making more than my dad. And the timing was perfect. Ford Lincoln plant moved to Mexico and my dad lost his job after 20 years. Because my mom was working and making a lot, he was able to retire and take the pension before he was 60 years old. Good thing my mom went back to work. But if you are going to go back to work for $10 today, don't bother. The car, insurance and drycleaning will eat up everything you make.
