DOGE is an advisory panel. It doesn't have any budget control or determination. It also does not have any specialized knowledge of what any specific group inside various departments are doing and whether it's a desperately needed group or not. And Elon can't ask GROK either. (an AI he built)

DOGE has a website it is constantly updating...and with Elon being unused to making GOVERNMENT statements and finished reports likely some of these reports made on the website were retracted....for a while until the statements align with policy.
