Department of Education

So....
It's on the chopping block.
But I remember when it was doing nothing more than not forgiving Student Loans it was contractually obligated to.

Here's a thought though....
We have an epidemic in our public schools that this department MUST address.

Teachers sexually abusing their students.

It's reached epidemic status in our public schools. In just ONE year there will be 10X more complaints filed than in 50years of Catholic schools and churches.

This article suggests that 10% of students have been sexually abused by teachers in public schools.

If that's true it will be the end of the public schools. Maybe it should be at any rate.

Carter created the thing....
Never has been any good. No requirements other than having a school for the money they give out. And states have taken advantage of the lack of requirement.

That statistic seems preposterous...like the one in four college coeds who experiences sexual assault.

Regardless, the Federal government has NO ROLE TO PLAY in enforcing state laws on sexual abuse and statutory rape, or anything related.

The whole point of eliminating the Dept of Education (which will never happen) is that education is not a Federal responsibility, and thus, according to the Tenth Amendment, it is reserved to the States.
The Department enforces federal law which protects against abuses that states did not stop.

BTW, when it happens it's an atrocity. But there is no way--just no way--that 10% of our children nationwide have been sexually assaulted in schools.

No way.

Please consider in these responses the "me too" generation, where I'm not kidding you, a male teacher reaching around a student or patting her on the shoulder is offensive TO HER and considered "sexual abuse".

I'm not minimizing when it really happens. But the kids are not okay and are offended by some totally normal interactions, too

Yeah, just fuck it all, anarchy, woohoo

School aged children at school pooping in pull ups. Nothing wrong with the child. The dr won't sign off on a medical dx because there is NOTHING WRONG with the child. Child is just not potty trained.

You're darn right, in some cases, these parents need to be held responsible.

I know what you mean. I prepped my kids for school by tutoring them at home.

In the 90s? No. Now? Absolutely yes. The kids are not the same, and they're not all right. In the same way that almost no one heard of autism in the 70s when I was a young child, but now, 1 in 30 children are autistic. And I'm not talking just "different" or "odd".

It's something. It's in our food, or vaccines, or SOMEthing.

Really.

The idea that proper diagnosis wasn't available is rather popular Sue.

The same mindset applies to gender dysphoria now

And you've seen this first hand, your entire career, right?

So, have you seen the end result of 'education' become better due to them?

Carter didn't crate the Department of Ed. It's roots go back to the 1860's.
.
The Department of Education Organization Act in 1979 was an act passed by Congress to make the existing structure. Carter couldn't create and fund a whole new department without Congress putting the legislation before him.

The Federal Government should run all schools, like in most of the industrialized world.
Those countries outperform US schools

Leaving it to states, you end up with situations like Texas demanding the Bible be taught
So...since the Department of Education was created in 1979, how, EXACTLY, has it IMPROVED education in the United States?

You will not answer because you cannot answer.
