The late Robert Parry argues a duly elected leader (Victor Yanukovych) was overthrown in 2014 by a minority of Ukrainians even after he agreed to move up elections so people could vote him out of office if a majority wished to do so.
Parry also alleges the US sponsored this illegal coup much as it did in Iran, Guatemala,, Chile, and numerous other countries since the end of WWII:
Did the U.S. Carry Out a Ukrainian Coup?
"NOOR: And so talk about what the West’s role has been in this, especially the United States and Germany, which is another player in this whole affair that hasn’t gotten as much attention.
"PARRY: Well, the United States has been trying to pry Ukraine away from a close relationship with Russia.
"Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said in December to a group of business leaders that the United States had invested $5 billion, she said, in helping Ukraine achieve its European aspirations, that is, moving it away from Russia into the E.U.
"So, obviously, the United States has played a role in trying to achieve this antidemocratic transition.
"As much as they may call it democratic, overthrowing an elected leader is on its face not democratic."
The question isn't whether a minority of Ukrainians objected to Yanukovych's decision to accept the Russian loan instead of the IMF's; the question is did the US use a small, far-right faction of that minority to impose a pair of US puppets in Kiev in order to advance regime change in Moscow?
