I've been meaning to complete this project for over two months, finally got around to it after picking up a foam panel at...you guessed it...Hobby Lobby.

I travel to many states, but the federal law "Firearms Owners’ Protection Act" or FOPA states:
Notwithstanding any state or local law, a person is entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry it, if the firearm is unloaded and locked out of reach. In vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm must be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Ammunition that is either locked out of reach in the trunk or in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console is also covered.

Some local laws still apply though...that means NO HANDGUNS if you have to go through Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, or California (and maybe Maryland).

Let me explain...in some states where handguns must be licensed and or registered, FOPA is only regarded as an affirmative defense...which means law enforcement can arrest you, impound your firearm and vehicle, put you in jail...and when you go see the judge, you can THEN assert your right to transport under federal law...and be released.

So I decided on a single shot 12 gauge...legal in all 50 states.

And since the NEF Pardner easily breaks down, I wanted something a little more inconspicuous than a rifle case. (And you guys thought I was crazy upgrading my knock around gun.)

So I used a old briefcase and that $7 foam panel plus a $2 razor knife.

Surprisingly, his was way easier than I expected.

I used one of those razor knives that are segmented...you know, when a piece gets dull, you break it off.

Then used it like a regular knife, regulating the depth by extending and retracting the blade.

Old Briefcase.

And a disassembled NEF Pardner 12 Gauge, slightly, but legally modified.

The rest is pretty self explanatory.

Still need to glue it in, but there is no hurry on that.

So, what did I learn?

When you cut this foam, don't saw, only pull toward you.

The foam CANNOT sit above the lip of the case...it wont compress like one might expect it would.

You can easily cut this longitudinally to make it fit below the lip with a razor knife. :D

Will it last? Only time will tell.
