That's very unfortunate, both for him & the loss of your friend for you, however it sounds as if maybe he's been struggling with mental challenges his whole life that were left unaddressed.I first met him in 5th grade...he was normal.
As school and life demands more of you as you grow he just didn't want to rise to the challenge...ANY challenge.
He just thought he would drift thru life, not paying attention to anything & not thinking about anything (retirement...buying a house...getting married or even a girl friend...nothing).
Now he's reaping the rewards those choices have brought him...and I certainly ain't gonna take care of him his remaining years.
He made his bed...HE'LL have to sleep in it.
Well if you prefer not working and can live off of roughly 25 to 37.5% of your normal salary I guess it's possible. That is what unemployment is for
To carry you when you unexpectedly lose your job.
Not where you plan work to support your unemployment claims
however it sounds as if maybe he's been struggling with mental challenges his whole life that were left unaddressed.
You did concrete?... like driveways and stuff... check out this outfit... fun you tube videos to watch
At least you're not Mexican or blackI got canned from my job in January 2024. I went on unemployment benefits and collected all 39 weeks until it ran out. I recently got a seasonal job at Target, and will go back on unemployment once the seasonal job ends and then proceed to collect all 39 weeks again.
Loser behavior to do this?

Brickie? what's that?... he does what I call flatwork he... is a concrete contractor... never seen him lay bricks...He's a brickie. I'm concrete contractor. I've been a cement mason since I was a teenager in 1985.
I used to get laid off in the winter sometimes but usually I would just go to work doing something else until April. I've been an ironworker, a lumberjack, operating engineer, a fireman/paramedic a handyman, a mechanic, an electrician, an electronics tech, a carpenter, an HVAC tech, a drywaller, plumber etc, etc...
Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant is that Moonglow is a brick mason, not the guy in the video.Brickie? what's that?... he does what I call flatwork he... is a concrete contractor... never seen him lay bricks...
Cement is a dirty word to these guys... they call it concrete...
Oh got ya... lol How do you know he was a Mason?...Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant is that Moonglow is a brick mason, not the guy in the video.
Cement is not a verboten word by us concrete contractors. We just cringe when we hear the term "cement" used interchangeably with the term "concrete".
