We are now paying over $1 TRILLION to pay interest on the national debt ($36 TRILLION), and that figure will continue to rise unless the DOGE team nails down a way to stop Congress from effectively adding to the national debt which in turn increases money spent to service the national debt.

One way to stop Congress from effectively adding to the national debt is to require Congress to immediately extinguish a current year’s borrowing to fund Congress’s spending, by laying and collecting a direct apportioned tax among the States the following year to pay off the preceding debt caused by borrowing, which effectively stops Congress from adding to the national debt.

I was under the impression Trump has a problem with low IQ people and yet, the DOGE team seems to be unable to focus on the root cause of the national debt increasing year, after year, after year, and the allowance is nothing more than not requiring Congress to extinguish a current year’s deficit caused by borrowing, by laying and collecting a specific tax to pay off the money borrowed and spent the preceding year, and is exactly what our Founders intended as confirmed by various state ratification documents of our Constitution, e.g. see the Ratification of the Constitution by the State of Massachusetts; February 6, 1788:

”Fourthly, That Congress do not lay direct Taxes but when the Monies arising from the Impost & Excise are insufficient for the publick exigencies nor then until Congress shall have first made a requisition upon the States to assess levy & pay their respective proportions of such Requisition agreeably to the Census fixed in the said Constitution; in such way & manner as the Legislature of the States shall think best, & in such case if any State shall neglect or refuse to pay its proportion pursuant to such requisition then Congress may assess & levy such State’s proportion together with interest thereon at the rate of Six per cent per annum from the time of payment prescribed in such requisition…”

So, what’s up with Trump’s premier and much heralded (among so called "conservative" circles) DOGE team picks who seem mentally deficient in being able to focus in on and addressing the real cause of an ever increasing of our national debt, and solving that problem, which our Founders already provided a solution to?

Trump hasn't even taken office yet and neither has Musk. How about waiting to criticize until after they actually get to work?

Trump is the self proclaimed "king of debt". That doesn't leave DOGE with any wiggle room.

Elon said he could trim $2T from the Budget.
That makes some sense because Trump-45's budgets were about $4T, Biden's current Budget is about $7T.
In the next 4-years interest on the Debt is still exploding upward, Trump isn't stupid, he understands math, unless he keeps the stock and bond markets happy Republicans will get wiped-out in 2026.
Getting back to prosperity will be a very complex balancing act between taxes and spending.

That’s odd. Since Trump sheep have been crowing about how much the imaginary DOGE has accomplished even though it doesn’t exist.

it’s a prime example of how easy it is to fool Trumpsters.

You ain't going to do anything about the debt until you do something about the real cause of the debt.

Lets look at pre Covid 2018 budget

Leave mandatories at 2018 levels. Cut discretionary to 2018 levels. Eliminate (not keep flat) anything else that was added besides debt service. It would go to dramatically reducing the deficit.

Trump is stupid when it comes to government, politics or history,

He wants to spend lots of “an executive time” watching Fox and reading X. Which is what he did for most of the first four years.

he likes the trappings of being President, but he refuses to take any of the responsibility.

He just lost a battle to get Congress to allow him to borrow and spend without consequence.

That should have made it clear that Trump does not care about debt or deficits.

He clearly didn’t during his last term. And he doesn’t now.

But if you’re looking for dumb, consider all the suckers that actually believe that Trump, Musk and the imaginary DOGE care about debt at all.

YOu do realize that Elmo wanted unlimited power to increase the debt, right? No debt ceiling was one of the things they wanted in the new bill.

Thank goodness they didn't get it.

You ain't going to do anything about the debt until you do something about the real cause of the debt.

I agree. And the root cause is, there is no supreme rule of our law requiring a current year's deficit to be immediately extinguished the following year, which would effectively stop adding to the national debt.

They are not tasked with lowering the debt, that task resides within congress.....They are charged, in an advisory role, to recommend to Trump, cuts in .gov programs/departments.

Then it's up to Trump to use the bully pulpit and convince the congress through the will of the people to make the necessary cut, laws, etc., necessary.

If departments/programs are cut severely or eliminated, then you are lowering the debt by not having to fund them......The trick is not treating the savings gleened as "found money" and spending it elsewhere.

Good luck with that given the pork hungry shitstains in congress.

.
You are correct. And the most effective advice to encourage Congress to cut gov programs/departments would be to suggest requiring any borrowing by Congress to fund gov programs/departments etc., during the course of a fiscal year, must be immediately paid off the following year by laying and collecting a direct apportioned tax among the states for the amount borrowed, the proceeds of which go to extinguishing that debt, at which time a shocking moment of real accountability is created, and particular so when the people of each state and their State Legislature and Governor, quickly learn, there is no free lunch coming from Washington.

That would be nice and all but it's not what they are tasked to do, nor is it within their scope.

The debt ceiling was suspended by the dem and xiden right when he took office

What’s good for the goose …

RUBBISH. I reiterate--- the DOGE hasn't even begun operating yet as Trump IS NOT IN OFFICE! Give these people a CHANCE please before you start ripping on them. Look at the recent spending bill: they got a 1500 page bill trimmed down to 150 pages! The FIRST STEP in addressing national debt is to CURB SPENDING on unnecessary things and that is already the influence they have had not even in office yet. Give them a year to at least get their feet in the door first before you expect a miracle overnight.
