I've walked down that same street with co-workers when I went there for work training over 20 years ago (damn time flies). Cops were ever-present there as it's a tourist area.
At night time women throwing me beads from the balcony and cat calling though it wasn't Mardi Gras season. Few people on the street sober. Fun memories really.
These random killings are devastating as it could be anyone at anytime. Unlike a bolt of lightning though, there is a human being behind the wheel who destroys lives of people who they had no beef with. It's beyond disgusting.
