February 2014 global temperatures were 21st highest on record

State of the Climate | National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)

Coldest February global land surface temperature since 1994

The majority of the world experienced warmer-than-average monthly temperatures. Part of Far East Russia, along with much of the northeastern Pacific Ocean, part of the western South Pacific, sections of the Arctic Ocean, parts of the western North Atlantic, part of the South Atlantic, the oceans off the southern coast of Africa, and the Adriatic Sea were record warm. Far East Russia and part of northern Scandinavia observed temperatures more than 9°F (5°C) above their February average. A small section of the north central Atlantic Ocean was record cold and many areas across central and northern North America and western Asia had temperatures more than 9°F (5°C) below their February average.

•The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces during February tied with 2001 as the 21st highest on record for February, at 54.64°F (12.51°C) or 0.74°F (0.41°C) above the 20th century average. The margin of error associated with this temperature is ±0.22°F (0.12°C).

•February marked the 29th consecutive February and 348th consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average. The last below-average temperature for February and the last below-average temperature for any month was February 1985.
• The global land temperature tied with 1943 as the 44th highest for February on record, at 0.56°F (0.31°C) above the 20th century average. The margin of error is ±0.58°F (0.32°C).

•The Northern Hemisphere land areas between 30°N and 60°N were 0.52°F (0.29°C) below average, tying with 1957 as the 60th coolest (76th warmest) for February on record and the coolest departures from average for land regions in the world during the month. The last February that was colder in this region occurred just two years ago in 2012. That month was 0.74°F (0.41°C) below average, ranking as 50th coolest (86th warmest) for February and was primarily due to cooler-than-average temperatures over most of Eurasia and northern Africa.

Going to take one hell of a nino to get us to that number one. Almost a 1998 kind! Goddamn Feb was cold.

Part of part of and part of equals the majority of the world....typical alarmist hype.

Which, of course, means that I have seen 49 colder Februarys. Age really tends to put things into context.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha :lol::lol::D

Very good! Perhaps it was the highest on "record" but certainly not the hottest in earth's history. Whatever the case may be I was pretty cold most of this last winter and I bet the folks on the east coast were too.

1. We're discussing what is good for human civilization. AKA the past 10,000 years.
2. Who cares about half of a small percentage of the globe!

We all seem to be doing just fine. So what if the earth's temperature ebbs and flows with the times. That's nothing new. I remember back in the 70s when the science community was all worried that we were entering the next "ice age." I ho-hummed through that fiasco like I'm yawning through the current one. Fear-mongering as a means of control is out of fashion.

In reference to your sig, and I realize you use the qualifier "globally", but:

" According to IRS reports, as of 2009 all individuals with incomes less than $343,927 belong to the lower 99% of the United States' income distribution."

We are the 99% - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I find it quite the coincidence that the US threshold for 1% should be almost exactly ten times the global threshold. Are you sure you didn't simply make a typo?

Nope, I was wrong. Should have looked more before opening me yap.

Another "Conservative" that cannot help but lie. No, in the '70's, most of the papers were worried about global warming due to the increasing CO2. And the definative paper of the period, a PNAS article, stated simply at that time that we didn't know enough to forecast for sure which way it would go, but gave it only a 5% chance of cooling.

https://www.skepticalscience.com/ice-age-predictions-in-1970s-intermediate.htm

However, these are media articles, not scientific studies. A survey of peer reviewed scientific papers from 1965 to 1979 show that few papers predicted global cooling (7 in total). Significantly more papers (42 in total) predicted global warming (Peterson 2008). The large majority of climate research in the 1970s predicted the Earth would warm as a consequence of CO2. Rather than 1970s scientists predicting cooling, the opposite is the case.

"on record"

you mean the whole 130 years weather records have existed?

wow leftard; that means alot in the 5 billion or so year existence of the planet

are you an evangelical?

No, but you're acting stupid. He refuted DriftingSands contention with a few facts. It's the way things are supposed to work here.

Your comments are inapplicable and irrelevant. The quantity of instrumented records and the accuracy of proxy-based paleo climate data is irrelevant to the question under discussion.

There was never a majority opinion among climate scientists that the Earth was facing an ice age as deniers have endlessly repeated. It is just another intentionally deceptive meme from the climate disinformation campaign.

what is a "denier"?

?!?

Someone who denies the validity of the theory of anthropogenic global warming: denies that the Earth is getting warmer, denies that humans are the primary cause of that warming and/or denies that we should be concerned about it.

Do you understand that your comment about weather records and the age of the Earth had no bearing on the question under discussion?

An idiot like you.

One has only to read the scientific journals to see what is happening. As for the age of the earth, for over half the Earth's history, you could not even breath the atmosphere. And there was no recognizable creatures for 7/8's of that history.

What is revelant today is the changes in relationship to the need to maintain the agriculture that over 7 billion people are dependent on. And we are creating changes that very negatively affect that ability.

another thread that makes a moot point >>>

Lessons Learned from Germany?s Great Green Catastrophe - The American Interest

One thing you can always depend on in life........far left guys pointing out problems and providing zero solutions that are grounded in reality. Zero.....its fascinating.

The one thing that is consistent in far left thinking is this notion that there is a solution to every problem in the world......that if you change the institutions, anything is solvable. Somehow, these people never learned that life is about accepting necessary tradeoffs and there are no solutions to certain problems. People have been talking about global warming for 25 years.......and virtually nothing has changed except that there is now a non-conventional market for energy that is having zero impact on the climate one way or another and it wont be changing for AT LEAST decades.
