Speaking of Porsche getting into the military business, I think I know the underlying fear that is pushing Our Beloved President into his flurry of tariffs. It is the historical reports of how quickly American manufacturers responded to the outbreak of WWII. Within MONTHS, car manufacturers were making planes, tanks, and ships, and other manufacturers had re-tooled to produce the hardware that a full-scale war demanded.

We COULD NOT do that today. Our heavy manufacturing capacity has been decimated by a combination of "free trade," government regulations, and labor unions.

Several years ago I worked as a legal advisor to the Purchasing Department at Westinghouse nuclear, and there were simply no domestic sources for large castings and vessels. OSHA had shut down basically all of our large foundries and the companies that could produce outsized fabrications. We bought all that stuff from Korea and China...the only sources we had.

So if parts for my electric bike become a little more expensive, I'm cool with it. It is for a higher cause.
