They've been held down in a quagmire not unlike their war with the Taliban.

Remember what happened in Afghanistan? They withdrew. They lost to a ragtag bunch of Islamic extremists.

It's not the size of the military or the sophistication of the equipment, it's the competence. If Russia's military was all it was cracked up to be, Ukraine would have surrendered in the first weeks of the campaign.
