Florida Governor bans computers

it would be great if he could ban computerized system in the hospitals :extreme hate emoticon:

LOL, well not intentionally. Little creative thinking must go into his decisions to sign or veto legislation, apparently.

Florida Accidentally Banned All Computers, Smart Phones In The State Through Internet Cafe Ban: Lawsuit

From the link:

When Florida lawmakers recently voted to ban all Internet cafes, they worded the bill so poorly that they effectively outlawed every computer in the state, according to a recent lawsuit.

The link in that paragraph, in turn, goes to a Florida House bill which bans electronic gambling devices. But I do not see where it actually bans Internet cafes.

Did the reporter get sloppy and make a mistake about the state wanting to ban Internet cafes as well as gambling?

The state obviously didn't mean to ban computers and whatnot, but the reporter implies they did intend to ban Internet cafes.

I think it has something to do with devices that can connect to the internet. Just what I saw briefly last night. I guess in Fla. you can pull your nic card and keep on legally using your computer........maybe you could just disable it in the BIOS....

We salute you Fla legislators, budweiser real men of genius. Protectors of hapless individuals wagering on out of state horse races or internet poker who fail to see the dangerous peril that awaits their exercise of free will. At your moment, you stood tall in the saddle and prevented little Suzy from accessing Pintrist whilst sipping her Hazelnut Macchiato

What difference does it make?

Oh boy...

Another Wry Catcher post, you know it's going to be painful...

Lots of noise is made about performance based pay, maybe there is merit in testing that theory first with the performance of our elected representatives.

After a quick read, it appears to me that what it does is make any establishment liable if anyone that uses the devises ends up entering a ‘game of chance’ except for Bingo – they put in exceptions for that in the retirement state, go figure. That essentially does lead to the complete ban of internet cafés as the liability here would be enormous. I don’t see how that bans ALL use though. It was mainly focused on the promotion and use of such devises as it pertains to gambling.

Personally, I find such things bullshit though. Making gambling illegal was not enough for these idiots, they have to go further and further with laws that will accomplish nothing. I don’t really find a good reason to make gambling illegal in the first place let alone eliminating internet cafes over it.

LOL, sorry genius, I'll try to live up to the bar you've set. I've noted your posts but none have been remarkable or substantive enough to comment upon. That you find mine stupid says a good deal more about you than me.

Keep posting emoticons and cartoons, both show a lot of thought and creativity - on some level.

It's a lawsuit filed by a guy who's company got shut down because they were offering gambling through a loophole. It's an accusation by a vested interest that is going to get shut down regardless.

Read the link.

The link does not claim that he filed that lawsuit.
The gambling ring:
In April Florida Governor Rick Scott approved a ban on slot machines and Internet cafes after a charity tied to Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll
And the lawsuit:
The owner, Consuelo Zapata, is now suing the state after her legal team found that the ban was so hastily worded that it can be applied to any computer or device connected to the Internet, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by The Miami Herald.
And then there is this claim:
Florida's 1,000 Internet cafes were shut down immediately,
That essentially claims ALL of them.

Really, arcades were even affected with asinine statements like this:
The legislation also puts limits on sweepstakes and says arcades cannot award gift cards or cash to winners. It also says arcades are supposed to have coin-operated games that involve an element of skill, not casino-style games of chance.
I mean, really?

This is asinine. Talk about nanny state government. This is exactly why I cannot be or vote republican. As much as they bitch about nanny state and big government liberals, here they are doing the exact same thing. The only difference here is that while trying to create big, intrusive, nanny government they managed to fail at even doing that correctly. Idiots.
