Labour’s key housebuilding target will not be met if water companies are blocked from significantly increasing bills, the leader of an industry group has said.

The government has promised to build 1.5m homes during this parliament as a central pillar to its plans to end the housing crisis.

They want to ramp up existing bills to create cash to build new pipes and so on.

This is outrageous. They want existiing users to fund water for new customers.
Over the past decade they have paid out billions in dividends. Noney that could have developed the infrastructure.

That doesnt seem to be part of their equation. This is a failure of regulation.
The govt needs to take immediate action on this threat to soociety. They need to pass a water regulation bill. A bill tha blocks dividends and bonusses on companies that failed to invest in its business.

Dividends should not be paid until the companies are compliant. This is a societal problem not a commercial problem.

We cannot be held to ransom by these bandits.

People need a roof over their heads. What a dumb question.

Sure, build homes where there's resources ... I'm all for that ... I'm a carpenter ... so why is there a water problem? ... are we talking about Mississippi or something? ...

Why is your homelessness rate over 15%? ... are you sure? ... 1.5m homes houses a lot of people, Canada's population is only a little over 36m ... smaller than California ... maybe bus them to Texas ...

The water is generally in the north or Wales. The jobs are in the south east.
The water companies failed to invest and plan for it.
Now its coming back to bite them.

Why do you have a housing crisis?

Is it because libs foolishly imported millions of aliens from the middle east and africa?

My apologies ... you type with a distinct Canadian accent ...

I'm also surprised that water is managed by business, in a country noted to be socialist ... the failure here was creating jobs where there wasn't enough water ... and now those owners are going to have to pay higher wages to cover all the extra taxes ... forcing them to move work sites to "the North or Wales" ... you know, where there is water ...

Of course it's expensive ... that's capitalism ... I understand that outrages your inner socialist ...

Retake Ireland, build on the West Coast there ... NOW you have water problems to complain about ...

The water companies siphoned off the cash as dividends. They havent treated it as a business.
Business owners invest in their business. These bandits just asset stripped.

Are you seriously condemning business owners for getting paid? ... that's your inner socialist speaking ... what's the point of owning a business if not to make money ... what kind of nonsense is this? ...

Revenue minus expenses equals earnings ... "invest[ing] in their business" is part of the expenses ... dividends are part of earnings ... no one will put up the capital for the new aqueduct if there's no dividends ...

It's too expensive to bring water in ... folks knew that ... all those new 1.5m homeowners got ripped off ... but again, they knew it ... the financial statements from these businesses are a matter of public record ...
