ā€œHarvard University said on Monday that it had rejected policy changes requested by the Trump administration, becoming the first university to directly refuse to comply with the administration’s demands and setting up a showdown between the federal government and the nation’s wealthiest university.

Other universities have pushed back against the Trump administration’s interference in higher education. But Harvard’s response, which essentially called the Trump administration’s demands illegal, marked a major shift in tone for the nation’s most influential school, which has been criticized in recent weeks for capitulating to Trump administration pressure.ā€

Very good.

More universities need to oppose Trump’s fascist authoritarianism.

Then they they will have their government funding withdrawn, just as Cornell and Columbia have had their funding withdrawn.
Let these Universities live off their endowments, just as they did before. Perhaps they will reduce the salaries of their High paid professors.

Most universities don't have a thousand trillion dollar endowment that they can use to weather the next 4 years

There is no showdown. They don’t have to. Then they get no federal aid

Which is fine, Harvard doesn’t really need it. Be truly private and do your own thing

This is nothing less than an insurrection. Those university officials who are responsible should be rounded up and placed in a federal prison for the next four years, while waiting for their trials.

Tell us you forgot to take your pills this morning without telling us you didn't take your pills this morning...

I wouldn’t agree with that. But if they choose to forgo the money and make it up by themselves, I’m OK with that as well.

Federal officials said Harvard must enact ā€œmerit-based reformā€ in hiring and admissions and report international students who broke rules, among other steps. Harvard called the demands unlawful.

A letter the Trump administration sent to Harvard on Friday demanded that the university reduce the power of students and faculty members over the university’s affairs; report foreign students who commit conduct violations immediately to federal authorities; and bring in an outside party to ensure that each academic department is ā€œviewpoint diverse,ā€ among other steps. The administration did not define what it meant by viewpoint diversity, but it has generally referred to seeking a range of political views, including conservative perspectives.

I thought it was against the Constitution to give favors based on race ?

Looks like they might lose their taxpayer funding. That's fine with me. Colleges with multi-million and multi-billion dollar endowments shouldn't be getting taxpayer money, anyway.
