As part of California’s ambitious push toward a zero-emission future, the state has passed legislation to phase out the sale of small gas-powered engines, including generators.

While this may raise concerns for RVers and campers who rely heavily on portable power, the law doesn’t outlaw personal use—only new sales after 2028. California is one of many states with affordable RV parks perfect for cross-country travel, making it a popular destination despite the shift toward cleaner energy.

With careful planning and a wave of new eco-friendly alternatives, outdoor enthusiasts can still enjoy California’s breathtaking parks and campsites this summer and beyond—while contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Here’s what the generator ban really means and how to prepare for the road ahead.

LOL....Make Dietz oil lanterns great again. :laughing0301:

I hope folks all buy these from Harbor Freight for CA use. ;)

Once again, progressives pass laws that make our lives more difficult as a sacrifice to their AGW deity.

Folks can't enjoy the Great Outdoors and Nature without a generator? ... how did we manage the first 2 millions years of our existence? ...

Don't go to California ... their parks are overcrowded already ... California doesn't want you ... stay away ... less snow in Texas or Mississippi ... if you come to Oregon, bring rain gear ...

I understand that more and more RV camping enthusiasts are going solar now anyway with these things.

They are even adding them to the roofs of their RVs.

Sorta makes sense for use in the sunny states.

This explains how 20% of the world's population gets by without an electric grid ...

THEY HAVE GENERATORS !!!!! ... can't live without one, right? ... what next, can't pee without a toilet? ... folks will die of starvation except for Kroger's ...

AI is here ... we can stop thinking now ...

That's why Dietz oil lantern production was moved to Hong Kong in 1959, decades before it was a "thing" because Asia/India was where the need/sales were.

Oil lamps are still used in some parts of the world as the main source of light where electricity is still a luxury like in southern Asia, and especially India.

Camping is supposed to be primitive ... the fun of having to hunt/fish for your dinner over an open fire ... Davy Crocket-like ... nothing between you and a cougar's dinner 'cept a Colt .45 ... you know, wilderness livin' ...

A noisy generator puking poisonous smoke ruins all that ... they should be outlawed from campsites IMEIO ...

Did they even have RV's in olden days? Or sleeping bags? And what kind of sissy can't make a fire without matches? What's this world coming to?

Fuck that shit. My generator will be in the RV that houses my comfy bed. At least it will be when I buy one.

LOL....As early teens we used to spend a week on the river and hunted and fished for our food. No supervision at all.

The only thing besides pole/tackle and gun/ammo, canteen and canteen cup I would bring was an old .mil shelter half and wrapped up in it would be some cornmeal, salt/pepper, a small tin of lard, and a tin skillet.

We knew every spring that went into the river, so we always had fresh water....We ate good, fried fish in cornmeal seasoned with salt/pepper and wild onions. Maybe a rabbit or two, doves, frog legs.

Other kids would bring different items, after a couple years it was pretty organized. Sigh, then we discovered girls and took summer jobs and that was the end of that.

LOL....I swear though, I think if we stayed more than a week it would have devolved into Lord of the Flies type of thing. ;)

These days my "camping" involves cat fishing into the wee hours then hanging a hammock till daylight.....I still use a Dietz lantern though.

My parents were hot on camping as family vacations ... not super primitive but certainly without electricity ... I carried that on because it was a cheap way to entertain the kids ... generators ruin the ambiance ... why not rent a cabin if you want those modern conveniences? ...

[sigh] ...
