This place is an absolute shit-show. There’s no success to point to here.

Most forums have douchebag moderators, many who are unsuited due to political bias, pettiness, and just plain ignorance.

That is not the case here, I have not been banned and rarely have been moderated. That is the very definition of success in an online discussion forum.

Also the flame zone isn't a free for all. I got suspended for like half a year for talking about sex a few years ago. It isn't fair. It is invisible to kids and is for adults and is generally thought of as free for all. It is misleading.

I don't think you should have to have links as long as you make an argument. Why should a topic within the topic board be closed? They closed my womb thread a few days ago because I didn't have links but I made a solid argument for my side and further into the thread I had at least 4-5 links in the replies.

I counted a dozen specific claims of facts in that thread, you didn't provide a link to even one.

Our Moderators are simply the best in the business. U have to remember that USMB is a MESSAGE BOARD surviving in a world awash with social media sites. The only reason USMB is surviving is because of our FREE SPEECH MODERATORS that only moderate when needed. Simply read the terms/conditions & follow them then U R set! I generally post in the political section & do my best to keep it @ least somewhat civilized regarding my posts in the interest of keeping our USMB an attractive site for newbies burnt out on the more commercialized social media sites. Our USMB has around 60 different forums & three of those forums, The Flame Zone, USMB Badlands, & The Rubber Room I believe may be more suited to the more brisk debate heavy hitter type of combative dialog. Hang in there & enjoy our rank & file crew!

The only problem I have with the mods here is that they seem to randomly choose mods, and certainly not based on any seniority on the forum or qualifications. Literally this place has a mod who became a mod about 6 weeks after joining. Yet we have good members who have been here for 15 years or more, and are very active, never in trouble, and not chosen as a mod. How can you respect someone like that?

and it has drawn the kind of member base that loves that and has the debate style to match. Most of the member base very style is very much different from the more civilized style of most boards. The moderation tries to act at times like it is the later on such people. That simply don't mix. Like waste water being used as drinking water.

It would be like a marshal walking into a wild west town and trying to force the member base to act like they're in New york or dare I say London during those times.

To understand the member base of this board is to look at the flamezone or other such subforum. Also for a large extent of the history of this board even the political section was very much was nearly as free( at least within most members minds!) within the confines of political debate. You could do stuff that the civilized style wouldn't ever allow and as in calling other members an outright liar and fraud. Yet, here I am scared to post outside of the flame zone. I am an experience poster and debater. I am not talking about my gay or tranny crap either but literally anytime I debate an issue in a civilized and respectable manner.

I agree with this. I have been on many forums and (in my opinion) this one allows the most FREEDOM OF SPEECH that I have ever seen. If someone thinks there are bettter forums then tell me what they are and I will gladly take a look at them.

I've been a member of this board for over 15 years. I normally reply to people within threads and generally stay ontopic, but the moderation because it isn't quite to their standard come down sometimes on me. It isn't fair to judge based on the op post when the direction of the thread has shifted to a slightest different area but still generally in the direction. Far too strict. I've been suspended a few times for this.
