Where the wild things are
The IDF Spokesman said Wednesday morning that as part of the large-scale intelligence and operational activities that the IDF and Israel Security Agency (ISA, or Shin Bet) have undertaken in order to locate the three abducted teens, security forces have arrested about 65 wanted men. Of these, 51 were freed in Operation Beit Hashoeva in 2011 – the release of over 1,000 terrorists in exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, who was held captive by Hamas for over five years.

The arrested men have been taken to interrogation.

Since the start of the operation, said the IDF, about 240 wanted men have been arrested. About 800 homes were searched, and about 10 actions were taken against targets that are part of the “da'awa” – Hamas's civilian infrastructure.

The fact that 51 of 65 wanted men arrested were freed in the Shalit deal appears to be an intentional message to Hamas, that its strategy of abducting Jews to obtain the release of its terrorists achieves the opposite.

Tuesday's arrests brought the total number of Palestinians detained since the teens disappeared Thursday to over 200, most of them Hamas activists, the biggest West Bank crackdown on the militant group in almost a decade. Israel has vowed to exact a heavy price from Hamas, saying the aim of the military operation goes beyond searching for the boys.

Israel has blamed Hamas for the apparent abductions, though it has not provided proof.

Israel leader wants world pressure on Palestinians

Indeed, Israel is engaged in illegal collective punishment.

Kidnapping 3 boys from their mothers' and nation's arms is a collective punishment.

Doing whatever is needed to bring them back is called "an investigation".

In order to do that, arresting 51 people with blood on their hands is called "delayed justice".

Didn't the freed terrorists say they would return to terrorism? And they were encouraged to do so?

Their early release meant that the Israelis would learn a lot about their activities as they were possibly being watched very closely which is why the Israelis knew who to take in for questioning.

When a terrorist says they will return to terrorism, then the Israelis are perfectly within their rights to take that very seriously.

i oppose all violence.

Israel needs to stop its war.

No, I don't "condemn" it either. I understand it. In the Palestinians' position, anyone would do what they do. They are going to reach out and grab whatever they can grasp.

I hope those young men are okay, and that depends on the motives and rationality of whoever kidnapped them. "Motive" depends on what the kidnappers want to achieve vis-a-vis Israel. Israel arresting all these people is giving them a card to play in negotiations.

Rationality depends on whatever happened to the kidnappers to motivate them to do this, if the motivations are personal. Let's hope they are rational people who also want a card to play and do not hurt the young men.

You understand it. I bet you "understood it" when they killed Shalhevet Pass, and Hadas Fogel.

Poor little them. They're under occupation, so....how did you say? "they're going to reach out and grasp whatever they can..."

Shalhevet Pass was a 10 months old baby.

Hadas Fogel was three months old.

Yuval Abeva was 4.

Helena Pass was not even 15. Didn't bother them... They reached for whatever they could grasp. It just so happened that what they grasped was her still beating heart. Tore it out of her chest while she was still alive.

But, they're under occupation. We should understand them.....

I don't think they said that.
