Education secretary: Mass layoffs first step toward total shutdown

Education Secretary Linda McMahon affirmed late Tuesday that mass layoffs are the first step toward shuttering the Education Department — a longtime goal of President Trump’s since his time on the campaign trail.

“Actually, it is, because that was the president’s mandate,” McMahon told Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on Tuesday. “His directive to me, clearly, is to shut down the Department of Education, which we know we’ll have to work with Congress, you know, to get that accomplished.”

Is completely shutting down the Dept. of Ed really trump's mandate?

The repeated claim by trump justifying his actions cuz he has a mandate is, well, nonfactual. Much of what is being done is not popular, even among Repubs.

It wouldn't be surprising if Linda is just misinformed, or uninformed, since she also can't identify dept. programs.

President Trump indeed has an overwhelming mandate to fulfill his agenda.

Mrs. McMahon is doing her part.

The "poll" that mattered was back in November, not some liberal bullshit taken since.

Fortunately, Linda has experience at firing people, if you'll remember how she fired Jim Ross with the traditional kick to the crotch.

The DOE was less than a year old when Ronald Reagan was sworn in.

Reagan promised to strangle the DOE in its cradle.

He failed.

Why didn't Trump end the DOE in his first term?

This is just more theater for the rubes.

You are misinformed. Thanks to the department of education, the US school system ranks 36th in the world.

Why didn't Trump end the DOE in his first term?

President Trump thought he could reform the DOE with Secretary Devos, who did a tremendous job.

But libs failed completely by stonewalling and not working together with Secretary Devos in a bipartisan way.

Nope.

We pay our teachers dogshit compared to other developed countries.

If we want quality teachers, we need to pay them what they are worth.

Actually, US teachers salaries are near the top of the list of 200 countries.

BTW, when I was in school, we were taught by nuns, who weren't paid shit compared to government school teachers.

And the results were tremendous, in comparison to the government schools. Paying more doesn't mean getting more.

That's factually incorrect, not matter how many times it gets repeated.

President Trump won every swing state by a higher margin than he did before. He won both the Senate and House.

I'd say you libs got thoroughly schlonged and no fake poll can prove otherwise.

There is no mandate for eliminating the Dept. of Ed. When did you come to believe that narrowly winning an election gave any prez carte blanche to do anything he/she wants? Like pardoning violent criminals.

Trump Does Not Have a Mandate

The big lie Donald Trump told after the 2024 election was that he’d won a “powerful mandate” from the American people. He hadn’t, and neither had his MAGA movement. The United States is, undoubtedly, a divided nation. But a majority of Americans who cast ballots in the 2024 presidential election actually agreed on one thing: They did not want Trump as their president. With almost all of the votes tabulated, we now know that around 50.2 percent were cast for someone other than Trump. That’s a small anti-Trump majority, but it’s enough to vex the incoming president, who has been at great pains since election night to foster the fantasy that he has achieved “a political victory that our country has never seen before, nothing like this.” His right-wing allies have been equally outlandish in their assertions that America has gone full MAGA.

New Poll Confirms: Trump’s Plan to Abolish Department of Education is Extremely Unpopular Among Voters

We gave Trump a huge ANTI-MARXISM MANDATE no matter what you liberal MARXISTS have to say about it.
You LOST.

Again, none of Muskrat or Trump's actions are aimed at reducing deficits. They're cutting jobs to pay for tax cuts, which last time did NOT improve growth because we already had, and still have, FULL EMPLOYMENT.

But I don't see what positives the DoE gives. They fucked up the FASA forms last year, and THAT should be their no 1 task (without fuckups) coupled with attacking predatory lenders.

And even then, our funding of higher educ is nothing but allowing lenders to prey upon middle class families.

It comes back to Civics education...not the students but the American public.

Education is the job of the STATES! The role of the Feds is beneath secondary. The Department was created as a gift to the teachers' unions, as a Thank You for their constant, enthusiastic support of the Democrat Party. Congress has no Constitutional power to spend tax dollars on "education."

The legitimate functions of the Department can easily be shifted to other Departments, as they were before the DoE was created.

NOBODY on the political Left has identified a single legitimate, Constitutional function that will not be done as a result of the elimination of the Department of Education...which is a long way from being eliminated, as we all know.

To the extent that students' legal and Constitutional rights are being protected by DoE, that function will shift back to DoJ, where it belongs.

Mandate shmandate. Elections have consequences. Trump won. Deal with it.

Average teacher salary in California is $95K.
