Republicans On The NC Supreme Court Blocked Certification Of A Dem Victory – What Happens Now?

Earlier this week, the North Carolina Supreme Court, in a 4-2 order, blocked the State Election Board from certifying the Democratic winner of a Supreme Court race, but the legal battle is far from over.

The state Supreme Court has set a briefing schedule that, as of now, will span through January 24th, to resolve the matter.

The State Supreme Court has ordered the Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin to file his legal argument by January 14. His brief will argue in favor of tossing out 60,000 November ballots, in an effort to steal the election from Democratic incumbent and apparent winner of the race, Allison Riggs. The State Election Board, which last month rejected Griffin’s ballot challenges, has until January 21 to respond. Griffin must then file a reply brief by January 24.

The Republican-controlled Supreme Court of North Carolina threw the election of one of its members into disarray on Tuesday as it temporarily blocked the certification of the Democrat incumbent’s narrow victory. The move gives the court time to consider a challenge by her Republican opponent, state appeals court Judge Jefferson Griffin, who has cited debunked legal theories in his previous failed attempts to block Justice Allison Riggs’ reelection.

Griffin has sought for his claims to be decided by the Supreme Court he hopes to join, which is led by his mentor. On Monday, a federal judge appointed by former President Donald Trump remanded Griffin’s challenge to the state Supreme Court. The state election board is now requesting a federal appeals court to return the case to federal court.

Riggs won reelection by 734 votes — a minuscule margin of victory that was confirmed by two recounts. She will remain on the court while the election results are being contested, though she has recused herself from this matter.

Essentially, the Repub controlled NC SC is going to decide the fate of a fellow Repub's attempt to throw out 60K ballots so he can steal the election.

That is not the strategy Dotard employed when he tried to steal the 2020 election. He took a different course, fake electors. But the Repub controlled SCOTUS did give a fellow Repub immunity for illegal acts in an effort to allow Dotard to escape accountability for his crimes. And the lawfare worked.

NC Repubs have some curious views about democracy and respecting the votes of the majority. As to the latter, they just don't.

Their feeling is it's their right to govern whether the voters agree or not. Just like trump.

Yeah, this is my concern too.

If the GQP uses judicial leverage to change our electoral system and literally change outcomes it doesn't like, the game might be over. That's when history repeats itself.

It's definitely not impossible.

Yeah I know, we felt the same in 2020 and we are still suffering from the cheat. But I guess it was worth it, because we have Trump back with a majority of Americans supporting him. Couldn't of done it without you loons cheating and bullshit felonies.

I remember a race in CA where they were still counting votes a month AFTER the election, so the democrat could beat the Republican, so don't play the victim card.
Please present your evidence that something nefarious happened to allow the Dem to win.

Consider the reason Barrett and Roberts joined the libs on the court regarding the hush money sentencing is likely because Merchan had stated he had no intension of actually punishing trump. Something that was noted in the ruling.

Meaning they implied they would have ruled otherwise, with trump's 4 solid votes for anything he wants, had Merchan planned on punishing trump in any way.

Indicating the SC is ready, willing, and able to support trump in ways previously thought to be impossible due to a lack of legal precedent.
