Being generally new to the inside politics of DC, Trump was probably wheedled by the CIA or other entities in our government to do that, according to their already existent foreign war agenda. I doubt he did it without someone persuading him to do so. The CIA usually starts quietly giving most new presidents the "treatment" if they aren't already in on the game, to see how far they will cooperate with the Shadow State, and to see how they can attach strings to them to make them dance the dance.

People like Obama, the Bushs and the Clintons are already in on it. They ALL have endorsed the New World Order and are in on it together. When Trump began to show that he had a mind of his own, and promoted domestic security over their foreign wars, that was when they launched their media coup against them.

Ukraine holds in the middle by Bakhmut. Russians are dying by the thousands there, throwing themselves fruitlessly against Ukrainian defenses. Occasionally Ukraine retreats a bit, to lure some more Russians into the artillery killing zone, then Ukraine takes the territory back.

Then the Ukrainian A-team attacks elsewhere. Right now, Ukraine is advancing towards Svatove. If that falls, the whole Russian position in the north becomes untenable. It's still mud season now, which limits advances, but that will change soon.
